Mass Effect Legendary Edition gave us a chance to reexamine the much-adored sci-fi trilogy under a modern lens. Many walked away from their most recent playthroughs feeling a little differently about the games - whether it was growing an appreciation for Jacob, or realizing that Ashley was actually way more racist than you remembered.

However, if there is one thing the fans are pretty much unanimous on, it's that the ending hasn't really gotten any better with age. One of the most complained about aspects of the controversial ending is the inclusion of "Starchild" (AKA The Catalyst) - an A.I. in the form of a child who follows Shepard throughout the game, and talks them through the final decision. Now, if you're one of many who finds this whole aspect of the game irritating, you can now remove it completely in the Starchild-Be-Gone mod.

"Have you ever been faced with becoming a galactic dictator, murdering an entire race, or non-consensually Reaperizing all life, and thought to yourself, 'there's got to be a better way'? "Well, now there is", reads the mod's description.

Starchild-Be-Gone - or SBG for short - adds several major changes to the game's narrative. The biggest is that Starchild is completely absent from the game. The dream sequences are cut short before you encounter him, and he doesn't appear at the end to talk you through the various options Shepard can make to end the Reaper war. Hell, if you really want, you can even remove the child you see in the prologue, which the Starchild takes the form of to mess with Shepard.

SBG gets around the whole ending conversation with Starchild by simply taking out the final choice - you always get the Destroy ending. However, there are some differences from the vanilla version of this ending, as it won't result in EDI dying, implying that synthetic life can survive after all.

Whatever your opinion is on the ending, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available to pick up on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
