So you’ve got Mass Effect Legendary Edition downloaded, all of the updates are in place, and you’re looking forward to play all weekend, huh? Well, certain Xbox players may attempt to log in to the game and find that it crashes almost instantly. And again, and again, without fail.

This is a disastrous bug that is afflicting the Xbox version of the game, and EA is aware of it, as we can see in this support forum reply from an EA community manager.

There is a problem with Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Xbox right now, but luckily we have the details thanks to the community manager and we know how to avoid and fix these crash issues for Xbox players who are desperate to start playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

How To Fix Crash Issues On Xbox In Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Although this issue will seem unusual to you, it seems to be a minor bug somewhere in the Xbox version that conflicts with peripherals. Yes, pretty much any peripheral you have attached to your Xbox other than a controller should be disconnected.

A patch is in the works, but when that patch will be available is anyone’s guess as of right now. Hopefully it’ll be fixed within the week, but we don’t have a definitive timeframe. In the meantime, the community manager has provided the following instructions to help anyone suffering from crashes in the Xbox version of the game who still wishes to use a headset.

  • Ensure your wireless headset is turned off.
  • Launch Mass Effect Legendary Edition from the dashboard.
  • Once you are at the launcher screen with the game, choose Mass Effect 1, 2 or 3.
  • Once you are at the title screen for either Mass Effect 1, 2 or 3 you can now turn on your headset, and you will be able to play with audio working as normal.

It’s a fairly simple fix, as all it requires you to do is ensure you headset is disconnected until you’re at least the title screen for the game. This should solve any immediate issues you’re having, and will let you get back to playing and streaming in peace.

As far as we know, this issue only currently affects the Xbox version of the game, and any crashes taking place in the PlayStation and PC versions of Mass Effect Legendary Edition are unrelated, though that also means we don’t have any fixes for other potential problems right now.

Let us know if the instructions above fixed your problem, and what other issues you’re encountering in Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
