Xbox France claims the only reason Master Chief isn't a part of the Smash Bros. roster is because the Spartan is yet to receive an invite.

For a long time, Super Smash Bros. was a celebration of everything Nintendo and nothing more. All of its fighters were lifted from Nintendo games and allowed gamers to find out who would win in a fight between Jigglypuff and Luigi, or Kirby and Samus. It wasn't until Brawl on the Wii that Nintendo eased up and started to add characters from non-Nintendo franchises.

The likes of Sonic and Snake were the first to break down that barrier. They have since been joined by others such as Final Fantasy 7's Cloud, and Xbox's first entrants into the battle, Banjo and Kazooie. This week, Xbox upped its stock in Smash as Minecraft characters Steve and Alex were added to Ultimate as DLC. According to Minecraft's former production director, it was a deal five years in the making.

There's always plenty of speculation and wishful thinking from Smash fans during the build to a DLC announcement. This time around, those waiting for Crash Bandicoot or Overwatch's Tracer were left disappointed. As were those hoping to see Halo's Master Chief join the battle. Even more bad news has surfaced since the reveal for Halo fans when it comes to Master Cheif's potential inclusion.

A French gamer took to Twitter to ask when Master Chief will be coming to Smash. Xbox France fielded the question, revealing that the Spartan is yet to receive an invite. Not a good sign if Steve really did get his invite to join the battle half a decade ago. Even if it doesn't take that long for Halo to be represented in Smash, the chances of there being back-to-back Xbox-based fighters added to the roster are slim-to-none.

Nintendo likely sees people asking about other characters and questions why they can't just enjoy the addition of Steve and Alex, who aren't even playable yet. More details regarding that will be revealed over the weekend. As for looking forward and asking what's next, that's just how society is in the present day. Before something is over, or sometimes before something has even begun, people will demand to know what's next.
