Medal Of Honor: Above and Beyond is the upcoming VR experience being developed by Respawn Entertainment, in partnership with Oculus. The new title will bring players back into the world of Medal Of Honor, which has not seen a new title in quite some time. Respawn can now immerse players in a gritty cinematic World War II experience like no other title in the series.

Aside from the gameplay reveal in September of 2019, there have not been any other details on the project. Until today.

Medal of Honor Above and beyond espionage action

During the Gamescom 2020 digital event, we saw new gameplay that showcased the action-packed story of Medal of honor. The trailer begins with soldiers storming beaches, falling out of damaged bomber planes, and sneaking around Nazi strongholds. There are glimpses of fighting on the front lines by driving tanks, while also helping the French resistance and shifting the tone into espionage. The game has a careful balance of camp and gritty action that makes players feel like they are the star of a World War II action movie.

Game director Peter Hirschmann revealed that the story will focus on a three-act structure. The first act will be helping the French resistance, the second being the infamous storming of Normandy, and the third act infiltrating secret Nazi weapon programs. There are no cutscenes perse, as the first-person perspective of VR is creating a much more intimate connection with the game, that Respawn hopes players will appreciate.

Will There Be Multiplayer?

For players curious about a multiplayer experience they may have to wait. During the reveal Peter Hirschmann touched on multiplayer stating that VR is quite a challenge from a game development standpoint. While the game is shipping with a full single player experience, Peter did not outright say multiplayer is out of the question but did not make any promise it would be out soon. There will be numerous VR exclusive modes that will take full advantage of the VR experience to make this single player game quite special. Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond will release this upcoming holiday season
