Mega Man is a game series all about taking on various different robot bosses throughout a variety of levels. Once the player manages to take down a robot boss, they will be rewarded with a new power!

Below is a list of the most powerful and the most useless villain powers that can be found in Mega Man. While every boss may have a weakness, it doesn't mean that all of these powers are worth looking at outside of the boss battles!

10 Powerful: Black Hole Bomb

This is easily one of the greatest weapons that Mega Man has had at his disposal. Not only can the player use the directional buttons to choose where it stops rather than having to shoot and hope, but it can suck in a lot of different enemies.

Throw in the fact that it can also suck up the projectiles sent out by the enemies and this is a move that no Mega Man player will want to be without. Players should probably try and get this one first!

9 Useless: Spark Shock

While the ability to temporarily paralyze enemies may sound helpful, it really isn't. In other games, it might become a beloved weapon, but in Mega Man, it just doesn't have the power that the player needs.

It's a fast game, one that relies on the player making quick moves to dodge the enemies ahead of them. Forcing the player to slow down and temporarily paralyze enemies just isn't something that many people will ever need to do!

8 Powerful: Pharaoh Shot

Not only is it incredibly helpful to be able to shoot a powerful projectile diagonally away from the player as well as forward, but this weapon can actually be charged. By holding the fire button, Mega Man is able to collect solar energy.

Once he has completed doing that, the player can then hurl a large orb of destruction at any enemies that are in his way. In Mega Man 4, this is the only other weapon besides the standard gun that Mega Man can charge up before firing.

7 Useless: Plant Barrier

Anyone that has played through the Mega Man games will know that the most important abilities are agility and power. If anyone wants to make it through these difficult games, they have to master these two traits before they get to the boss.

Due to this, any defense-based powers just aren't as impressive as the strength-based ones. Creating a barrier of condensed energy that swirls around Mega Man might sound helpful, but it just doesn't do enough to be regarded as a good power.

6 Powerful: Thunder Beam

Arguably the most powerful weapon in Mega Man 1, there's pretty much no enemy that can get away from this one. Many people found that in the original NES game, they could easily exploit one of the final bosses by using this weapon.

It spreads across the entire screen and does a very large amount of damage when used properly, so it's another one that players should be heading straight for when they boot up the game. Get to Elec Man's stage first!

5 Useless: Napalm Bomb

The Mega Man games are all about precision. If the player isn't narrowly avoiding a projectile that has been sent their way, they're ensuring that their weapon is pointed exactly where it needs to be.

This is why weapons like this just aren't of any use outside of very situational circumstances. The bomb that the player throws out bounces around the screen before finally exploding, meaning that they have to be incredibly precise if they want it to be of any use.

4 Powerful: Magnet Missile

People already know that one of the hardest things about the Mega Man games is actually being able to get a hit on an enemy, which is why so many players find this weapon useful. As people can probably guess from the name, rather than just travelling in a straight line, this missile tracks an enemy.

With the player not worrying about the projectile hitting where they want it to, they're free to keep an eye on the rest of the screen. They can fire and then make sure nothing has fired back at them.

3 Useless: Atomic Fire

It's pretty disappointing that a weapon with such a cool name could end up being so useless. It takes far too long to charge up, which is the only way of making it worth using, and it uses too much energy to do so.

Without charging it up, it doesn't have the power or range that make so many of the other weapons in the Mega Man games fan favorites. It's fine at a push, but otherwise is pretty useless against most of the enemies in the game.

2 Powerful: Metal Blade

If there was ever a case for a Mega Man weapon to be broken, it's this one. Not only can the player rapidly throw it in eight different directions, but it can actually cut through enemies as well. When fighting through a stage, the player can use it to dispatch more than one enemy with a single shot.

It can be devastating when placed in the hands of the right player. Throw in the fact that it actually has a pretty high damage rate and this is a weapon that every single player should want in their arsenal.

1 Useless: Hyper Bomb

Bombs are pretty much universally helpful in video games, which is why it's such a surprise that this weapon is not helpful at all. The bombs are thrown in a very small arc, making it almost impossible to get the timing and precision right.

In a game that is all about timing and precision, this is a serious problem. It just goes to show that people shouldn't judge a book by its cover, as this is arguably the most useless bomb in video game history.
