SpongeBob and Patrick's full movesets have been revealed for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and they're full of memes and references to SpongeBob Squarepants.
The official Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Twitter account Tweeted out both characters movesets completely out of the blue. Like pretty much everything to do with the game, Twitter reacted incredibly positively, with each post sat at 19k likes.
Beyond excitement for the game, the main reason why these movesets seem to be getting so much love is because of how meme-y they are. Many of SpongeBob and Patrick's moves are straight-up memes from the show or just deep cuts that prove that the developers know what they're doing with these characters.
Some of SpongeBob's highlights include the "Imagination Clap", which is based on the early Idiot Box episode, and the "Order Up" move which is a direct callback to the first-ever episode of the show, where SpongeBob solves a problem with anchovies and gets hired at The Krusty Krab.
There are also some specifically meme-focused moves like "Chomp", which is literally just based on an image of SpongeBob biting the air, and "Running Slip", which is based on a meme of SpongeBob tripping mid-air.
Patrick gets the exact same love for his moveset. Moves like "No It's Patrick" are pretty clear SpongeBob references to the episode Big Pink Loser, but you've also got moves that many think are taken from Battle For Bikini Bottom, such as the "Belly Flop" and "Belly Bump".
Patrick even has a move where he turns buff, "Spinning Lariat", just like he did in the Fry Cook Games episode. The shame of getting taken out by a move named "Toot Laser" is going to be real, but we're here for it.
To be more technical for a second, this moveset dive also tells us a bit more about the game's combat. For starters, it doesn't look like SpongeBob or Patrick have any kind of "ultimate" move, and instead rely on normal attacks, aerial attacks, and some sort of equivalent to Smash attacks. As you'd expect from a Smash clone, there's also a decent amount of variety thanks to the use of directional attacks. Seems like it's not all just jokes with All-Star Brawl, even if they've got some pretty great ones.
