In a recent poll, Metacritic users have voted for The Last of Us Part 2 as their Game of the Year for 2020.

The Last of Us Part 2 has received heaps of praise this year from several different outlets and won seven different awards at The Game Awards. The game is one of the best that 2020 had to offer in what turned out to be an incredibly competitive year for gaming. It continues to win accolades and recently reached the impressive total of over 200 Game of the Year awards.

While some think that the praise for The Last of Us Part 2 is unwarranted, Metacritic users seem to love the game as they voted it Game of the Year for 2020. The poll finished with The Last of Us Part 2 being crowned the winner with just over 10,000 votes. In fact, it was a landslide victory for the title, beating out second-place Ghost of Tsushima by a whopping 8,000 votes.

Some may find this slightly surprising as the game itself has a user rating of only 5.7, most likely an aftereffect of the game's review bombing which ultimately led to a change in Metacritic's review policy. Who can forget the game's massively controversial launch back in June that saw Laura Bailey and a number of Naughty Dog developers receive death threats over events that took place in the game?

Another notable placement in the poll was Cyberpunk 2077 coming in third with just under 1,700 votes despite the game's disastrous launch on the base versions of both PS4 and Xbox One. Fans of Supergiant Games will also be pleased to learn that Hades placed fourth, with just over 1,500 votes.

But possibly the most interesting insight the poll offers is that Persona 5: Royal, recently revealed to be Metacritic's highest-rated game of 2020 by critics, isn't anywhere near the top of the list, where you'd expect it to be. Instead, the game is 13th, placing between Half-Life: Alyx and Resident Evil 3. This could possibly be a result of Persona 5 Royal being an extension of the original Persona 5 rather than a new game entirely.

The Last of Us Part 2 has another award to add to its swelling trophy cabinet. Congratulations to Naughty Dog and its continued success!
