There’s a new mod out there that lets you replace Venom Snake in 2015’s stealth action title Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain with Kermit the Frog from the Muppets. Why? We’re not sure. But then again, since when have modders ever needed a reason to do the things they do?

We have Twitter user Ratlysh to thank for this stylistic mod that brings Kermit the Frog into his most intense role yet. The mod seems to just replace the Venom Snake model with one of Kermit, as video footage shows Kermit performing the exact same flying tackle and body slam on a poor, unsuspecting enemy. Kermit even has both an assault rifle and sniper rifle in the same positions as they’d be on Venom Snake, even though they clip through Kermit’s muppet body somewhat.

Ratlysh’s post on Reddit has become a big hit with over 49,000 upvotes and over 1.6 million views. It’s currently unknown if the mod will become publicly available as Ratlysh hasn’t made an announcement yet. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on social media to update this article as appropriate.

In other Metal Gear news, it turns out that the 35th-anniversary website was an utterly cruel April Fools' prank. Konami has confirmed it has absolutely no affiliation with the site that popped up just a day before April Fools promising a 35th-anniversary surprise for Metal Gear Solid fans. Then on April 1, the site started advertising for fake Konami NFTs. Although Konami has started selling NFTs, the publisher has yet to start selling Metal Gear-branded NFTs. It seems that this April Fools' prank was designed to both trick fans and bring attention to Konami’s poor handling of the Metal Gear franchise.

Metal Gear fans have little more than mods to look forward to, as even the Metal Gear Solid movie seems to be stuck in limbo without a script.
