Konami reportedly plans to announce the long-rumoured Metal Gear Solid Classics Collection for current-gen consoles at some point in June, with a multiplatform launch planned.

It looks like it's going to be a pretty big month for Metal Gear Solid fans. Over the last few years, it's been heavily rumoured that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was in development, with several insiders suggesting that it's going to be announced at tonight's PlayStation Showcase. If that wasn't enough for you, it looks like the classic Metal Gear Solid games are making a long-overdue comeback as well.

That's according to Windows Central's Jez Corden, who updated his recent report that the Snake Eater remake is real with a mention of the Classics Collection. In the update, Corden notes that he's heard that the collection will include Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3, similar to the HD Collection that launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360 a few generations ago, minus Peace Walker.

Corden also points out that the existence of this new Classics Collection would explain why the original version hasn't been available for purchase on Xbox for a while, despite it previously being made backwards compatible. The collection is reportedly due to be announced at some point in June and is planned for release on several platforms, despite previous rumours suggesting some kind of exclusivity deal between Konami and PlayStation.

You might be wondering what this new Classics Collection means for two other important Metal Gear Solid games - Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4. Peace Walker was previously included in the HD Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3, but seems to be missing here for some reason. As for Metal Gear Solid 4, despite it very much being a classic now that it's been 15 years since it launched, it looks like Konami is still sticking to keeping it as a PS3 exclusive for the time being, if this rumour turns out to be true.
