Metal Max Xeno Reborn has plenty of WANTED monsters: boss enemies that are tough to beat but offer a colossal gold reward when defeated. Unfortunately, most of them are unstoppable unless you have built a complete party.

Luckily, one boss, the Gun Taurus, is manageable alone. Gun Taurus is an easy WANTED monster to target because you'll have the environment of the Ariake West Canal to assist you. Are you feeling shaky in your combat boots? No worries! We'll show you how to do it.

What Do You Need To Know About Gun Taurus?

A Wanted poster displays the Gun Taurus, along with a 15,000 G bounty in Metal Max Xeno Reborn.

Gun Taurus is the least intimidating of all the early-stage WANTED monsters. In turn, the monster has a low bounty of 15,000 G. Still, 15,000 G is nothing to scoff at, especially early in the campaign. Gun Taurus looks like the tanks you'll encounter under the overpasses leading to the canal. However, Gun Taurus sports a tan paint job and has a single green eye between its two cannons.

The WANTED data concerning Gun Taurus is rather vague. Here are its records:

"No relevant data found in recorded logs. All evidence indicates you'll require a vehicle with high SP and serious firepower. Figure out how to defeat it yourself."

Fortunately, since we defeated this mechanical beast, we dug up more info on Gun Taurus in the monster library. Here are some stats to know:

  • EXP Offered: 400
  • Gold Reward (excluding the bounty): 428G
  • Dropped Items:
    • Taurus Core
    • Crimson Taurus
    • Killing Core
  • Resistances:
    • 75% Resistance to Cold Attacks

Where Will You Find Gun Taurus?

Po-M briefs Talis after he finds Gun Taurus in the Ariake West Canal in Metal Max Xeno Reborn.

After entering Tsukiji Ruins, travel southeast under a series of overpasses, and be prepared to face hordes of Unmanned Tanks in your path. You may want to dedicate one trip to clear the pathway of tanks. This way, you can travel back to Iron Base and recover, then approach the Gun Taurus with full SP. After the last overpass, turn left, and you'll face the canal where Gun Taurus is hiding.

Still, once you find Gun Taurus, you must avoid engagement and retreat as soon as possible. At this point, your goal is to travel to the other side of the canal. Then, keep driving to the Big Atrium Exterior. Traveling the extra distance will allow you to sortie in a more advantageous spot on your next trip. This new sortie point is essential since you will take some hits traveling past Gun Taurus during your first time in the canal.

What Weapons Should You Equip?

Talis targets Gun Taurus from outside the Ariake West Canal in Metal Max Xeno Reborn.

When preparing for battle against Gun Taurus, focus on equipping weapons with high attack power. Cannons and SEs are best. However, it's always beneficial to equip at least one machine gun in case your other weapons run out of ammunition.

Furthermore, we highly recommend equipping the Double Rush trait chip. This microchip enables an attack that fires the port one and port two weapons simultaneously. Therefore, equipping two high-powered cannons in the first two ports will give you a powerful attack with the Double Rush chip installed.

Since cold weapons are less effective against Gun Taurus, it's best to avoid them. For instance, we were able to take out the monster with a double assault of a non-elemental cannon and Freeze Blast. However, defeating Gun Taurus with this combination of weapons took a good chunk of time.

We also recommend upgrading your tank's engine in the sortie garage. Doing so will increase your load capacity, which positively impacts SP.

How To Defeat Gun Taurus

After several sneak attacks, Talis defeats Gun Taurus at the Ariake West Canal in Metal Max Xeno Reborn.

You'll notice an area with crates overlooking the Ariake West Canal. If you make a U-turn out of the canal, you can find an effective hiding spot behind the crates above the Gun Taurus. There's a small opening where you can target the Gun Taurus and begin your assault. This opening is the key to taking the monster down.

Your battle with Gun Taurus will proceed as follows. First, attack Gun Taurus from the opening in the crates. Then, Gun Taurus will engage with you. Instead of continuing to fire, quickly reverse your tank away from Gun Taurus until it cannot find you. Your engagement with the monster will break before the monster can land an attack.

Once you understand this cycle of attack and retreat, perform it multiple times. You'll need to exercise patience as you slowly chip away Gun Taurus's HP. Using Double Rush will quicken the battle. However, if you run out of ammo, use spare ammunition or switch to machine gun attacks. Gun Taurus will explode in a matter of minutes.

Furthermore, while Killing Cores cannot manufacture weapons, they are often a necessary component of various weapon upgrades.

After defeating a WANTED monster the first time, you can battle them again after a prolonged period. Unfortunately, defeating these monsters again won't reward the same bounty. Still, you'll gain necessary materials, like Killing Cores, that will allow you to upgrade weapons to the highest capacity.
