There's a new fighting game in town, and it oozes style. Or maybe that's oil. Metal Revolution is the name of this new contender, and it hopes to throw down with the big names in the genre using a combo of cool characters and easy-to learn controls.

Metal Revolution takes place in some kind of future where machines and humans are at odds. The robots of this world embody famous fighting game archetypes. There's the traditional martial artist, the hulking muscleman, and the slick nunchuck guy. But it's not all clichés. There's also more bizarre options like a nun with metal arms and the machine embodiment of the mythical Monkey King. As you'd expect from this cast of diverse characters, the attacks are full of style and flash.

One thing that might surprise you, however, is that Metal Revolution will not be a highly-technical game. At least, not if the developers achieve what they're aiming for. According to the game's Steam page, controls will be minimalistic. "Breaking from traditional fighting game controls," it says, "players can easily master the basic moves, and even newcomers can also use cool combos."

This emphasis on appealing to newcomers is heightened by the fact that Metal Revolution will be appearing on mobile alongside its PC and console launch. But take heart, fighting game fans. This doesn't necessarily mean that Metal Revolution will be an over-simplified, swipe-to-win affair. The developers appear to be making efforts to appeal to the hardcore fighting game community. Just recently, they had a booth at EVO with daily tournaments. Feedback from the event is going into improving the game. We can take this as a good sign that Metal Revolution will be aimed at newbies and competitive players alike.

Metal Revolution will be making another event appearance at PAX West in Seattle from August 30th-September 2nd. Judging from EVO, PAX West attendees should be given a chance to try the game in its current form. We should be seeing more impressions come from the event, and hopefully learn if Metal Revolution really can be both cool for casuals and deep for devotees at the same time.
