One of the collectibles you can find scattered throughout Metroid Dread are Missile Tanks. There are two types of Missile upgrades that Samus can get: a regular Missile Tank will increase Samus’ missile ammo capacity by two. A Missile+ Tank will increase Samus’ missile ammo capacity by ten.
Some of the Missile upgrades are easy to collect and you will naturally come across them as you progress through the main storyline, however, a good portion of the upgrades will be left to late gameplay, as they require a very good command of Samus’ various abilities. Below is a list of every Missile Tank and Missile+ Tank upgrade to be found in Ferenia and how to get them.
Ferenia Overview
There are eight Missile Tank upgrades to get in Ferenia: two Missile+ Tank upgrades and six Missile Tank upgrades.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 1
This Missile Tank is hidden behind breakable blocks in the location marked on the map. Use Samus’ Pulse Radar to see the blocks above her head, then shoot them with her Missiles and climb up into the opened area.
Use the Pulse Radar again to find a breakable block in the upper right corner.
Missile it, and expose a Missile Tank.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 2
This Missile Tank is super tricky to collect and will likely take a few tries. It is located in a hidden area and requires using the Shinespark ability to collect it. Start at a point on the map above and left of where the Missile Tank is located and directly below the elevator from Hanubia.
Shoot the door to your left to open it, then run left, charging up Samus’ Speed Booster. Run left through the door, and slide when you reach the wall to find and destroy some breakable Speed Booster blocks and enter into a hidden area.
Use Samus’ Pulse Radar to find two destroyable blocks on the floor of this new area. Shoot to destroy them, then drop down into another hidden area with a Grapple Beam block to your right. Use Samus’ Grapple Beam to destroy the block.
Go back to where you started. Shoot the door and run left through it a second time, charging up Samus’ Speed Booster. Slide through the gap where the Speed Booster blocks used to be. Immediately after sliding through the breakable blocks, press crouch to charge your Shinespark, then quickly shoot down to break the breakable blocks on the floor.
Climb into the Morph Ball tube on the right, and initiate the Shinespark by pressing and holding B, and right on the joy-con.
Samus’ Shinespark should take her through a long series of breakable blocks across a bed of ice, and land her in another hidden area.
In this last hidden area, use Pulse Radar to find a hidden block in the upper left corner. Shoot it with a Missile to destroy it, and claim your Missile Tank.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 3
This Missile Tank is located in a hidden area. Start just below the room where you received the Space Jump upgrade, close to the Ghavoran Shuttle.
Use Samus’ Pulse Radar to find the hidden breakable blocks in the room. There will be three vertically stacked Bomb blocks above and to the left of Samus.
In Samus’ Morph Ball form, jump as close to directly underneath the three Bomb blocks as possible, and leave a Cross Bomb hovering in the air.
Fall to the ground, then immediately use Space Jump to go back up. If you managed to place the Cross Bomb correctly, the blocks will be destroyed, opening the path to this Missile Tank upgrade.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 4
This Missile Tank is in a hidden location. Start in the area just above the blue teleporter in Ferenia.
Use Pulse Radar to find some breakable blocks to the left; destroy them with Cross Bomb and Power Bomb.
Roll through the Morph Ball tunnel to the hidden area. There are some breakable blocks in the ceiling; shoot them and climb up to grab the Missile Tank.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 5
This Missile+ Tank is easy to see, but tricky to get, and is located very close to the left elevator from Dairon. It is surrounded by walls; they are mostly breakable but will require using Shinespark.
There are breakable Beam Blocks in the Morph Ball tunnel to the left of the Missile Tank that leads into an open space, but there are also Pitfall Blocks right below. There are Speed Booster blocks directly to the left of the Missile+ Tank.
Start at a point in the frozen area above and to the left of the Missile+ Tank.
Cue up Samus’ Speed Booster while running right, shooting the door open when you come to it. In the next room, press crouch at the first chance you have to bank your Shinespark.
Enter the Morph Ball tunnel to the left of the Missile+ Tank, and immediately initiate the Shinespark in the down and right direction towards the Missile+ Tank (press and hold B and down and right on the joy-con simultaneously). You will blast right into the Missile+ Tank and collect it, without falling through the Pitfall blocks below.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 6
This Missile Tank is located in a hidden area. Start directly to the right of where it is marked on the map, attached to a blue wall just above the waterline.
There is a breakable Morph Bomb block just to the left. Jump and leave a bomb in midair beside the block (press ZL to switch from Screw Attack to regular Morph Ball and then press Y to set the bomb). You can also use a Power Bomb to break the block.
Roll through the Morph Ball tunnel into a hidden room with the Missile Tank. There are Pitfall Blocks that will prevent Samus from getting to the upgrade; stand on the edge of the Pitfall Blocks and use Samus’ Plasma Beam to destroy the corrupted breakable wall on the left side of the room.
Fall through the first level of Pitfall Blocks, then use Space jump to avoid falling through the second level of Pitfall Blocks, and jump up to grab the Missile Tank.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 7
This Missile Tank is located in a hidden area, just below where Missile Tank 6 is found. Start directly to the left of where it is marked on a map. There will be a Morph Ball tunnel in the top right of this room that will lead to the hidden area.
Once in this new area, you will see the Missile Tank. Use Pulse Radar to find where the breakable blocks in this room are located; there are Bomb Blocks along the right side of the area, along with Pitfall Blocks directly below both the Bomb Blocks and the Missile Tank.
Leave a Cross Bomb directly below the Bomb Blocks and fall through the Pitfall Blocks below.
Quickly climb out from the water, and use Space Jump to get to the Missile Tanks before the Bomb Blocks respawn.
Ferenia Missile Upgrade 8
This Missile+ Tank is one of the trickiest to get in all of ZDR, and requires precise use of the Speed Boost and Shinespark abilities. Start to the left of the Missile+ Tank, in the purple area where the shuttle to Ghavoran is located.
Run right through the door, charging up Samus’ Speed Booster as you go. Once in the next screen, jump up to the right to the next platform while maintaining your Speed Boost.
Jump right to the wall, then press X when you hit the wall to wall jump off it and to the left. This is the only way to turn around without losing your Speed Boost.
Land on the higher platform, and immediately press ZL to slide into the breakable blocks, still maintaining your Speed Boost.
Continue left underneath a set of Bomb Blocks, and through the second set of breakable blocks into an open area. Immediately press crouch to bank your Shinespark. If you are not still pressing left on the joy-con when you emerge from your slide, you will lose your Speed Boost. This timing is super tricky.
Once you have banked your Shinespark, slide right into the same Morph Ball tunnel until you are below the Bomb blocks. Use a bomb to destroy the blocks, and immediately after pressing the bomb button, press and hold B and up on the joy-con simultaneously to use your Shinespark to launch Samus directly up through the Speed Booster blocks above the Bomb blocks.
