After being teased more than a decade ago, Metroid Dread is now just three days away and the reviews for the highly-anticipated Switch game are in.

It can often take a developer years, perhaps even close to a decade to create a follow-up to a game. Just ask GTA 5 players desperate for any information regarding GTA 6, or Bayonetta fans before they were finally shown their first glimpse of Bayonetta 3 last month. If you feel like you have ever been left waiting for a sequel for a long time, spare a thought for those eagerly awaiting the arrival of Metroid Dread.

Dread was first mentioned all the way back in 2005. A teased sequel to Metroid Fusion that Nintendo initially planned on creating for the DS. Despite whispers of Dread already making it out into the world, Nintendo decided the DS couldn't do it justice. 16 years and multiple consoles later, it is about to arrive on Nintendo Switch. Below you'll find what we and other major outlets think of it now it's finally here.

Metroid Dread

As you can see from the scores above, no one has much bad to say about Dread. While a game many have been waiting two decades for would always struggle to disappoint, its devs haven't anticipated that and skimped on the experience. Dread is every bit the sequel to Fusion that Metroid fans want it to be while also fitting neatly into a video game world that has come on leaps and bounds since the last game in the series.

The 16-year wait to find out what Dread is like for yourself is almost over, but don't worry as it seems almost certain that you'll be happy with what the game has to offer. Get ready for those boss battles too. While they're almost guaranteed to have you seconds away from hurling your Joy-Con across the room, they're also some of the best boss battles ever offered up by a Metroid game.
