There are few fans louder than Metroid fans. Because it's not big as Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo doesn't have as much priority getting games in that franchise out. Many Metroid fans have felt ignored, but they remain loyal to the series, hungry for any new adventure starring Samus Aran.

With the release of Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Prime 4 on the distant horizon, it's a great time to be a fan of the series. While some fans wait for new games to be released on Switch, they will appreciate the items on our intergalactic Metroid gift guide.

10 METROID: SAMUS RETURNS SPECIAL EDITION

Amazon

After years of no new Metroid games being released, Nintendo not only released one, but did an excellent job. Metroid: Samus Returns is a remake of Metroid II: The Return of Samus on the original GameBoy. The remake was released on 3DS and provides a reimagining of that game's world.

With new mechanics, better visuals, and a nice soundtrack, there's plenty to enjoy in it. The game fully revitalizes the 2D style of Metroid games that put the series on the map. The Special Edition costs a bit more, but it comes with a soundtrack featuring the tracks from the game.

9 SUPER METROID SWITCH SKIN

Amazon

If you know a Metroid fan who purchased a Nintendo Switch at launch, odds are that they're using a gray one. While the system is nice-looking, it could probably do with a visual upgrade. That's why this Super Metroid skin from Controller Gear would make a great gift. It provides a skin for the back of the console, both Joy-Cons, the Joy-Con grip, and even the dock's front, sides, and top.

The design is also excellent, featuring the box art and cartridge design of Super Metroid on the NES, which any Metroid fan will recognize as one of the best entries in the series.

8 METROID ACTION FIGURE

Amazon

Despite the franchise titled "Metroid", the Metroids are enemies rather than the main character. The Metroids are jellyfish-like aliens that fly around and latch onto the heads of anyone who gets near them. They're notorious for being a pain to take down, but that's why they're so iconic.

This figure nails the details on the Metroid parasite expertly. Everything from the appendages at the bottom to the brain inside its translucent body is all accurate. Better yet is the fact that this figure is also articulated, meaning that it can be configured in different poses. Any Metroid fan would love to have this on display.

7 METROID HEAT-CHANGING MUG

Amazon

Heat-changing mugs often have some awesome designs on them, and this Metroid heat-changing mug is no exception. When cold, the mug simply has the Super Metroid logo and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System logo.

However, pour in some hot liquid to reveal the cover art for the Super Metroid game. This gorgeous and nostalgic artwork features Samus in a battle against Ridley, her greatest enemy. This box art remains one of the best in the series, and seeing it represented on a mug in this way is so creative. Fans will love drinking their morning coffee out of this one.

6 THE ANATOMY OF METROID DELUXE EDITION

Amazon

The Metroid series is often regarded as one of the best in gaming. That said, it may intrigue some to wonder how it got there and why. That's why The Anatomy of Metroid Deluxe Edition would make a great read for fans of the series.

This book (not officially published by Nintendo) looks into the history and design work of the Metroid series. It dives into its visual and mechanical tricks to see what roads it paved for the industry. As a bonus, the game also provides an in-depth look at Kid Icarus, which is a game similar to classic Metroid.

5 METROID NES T-SHIRT

Amazon

Metroid started out on the NES with a simple title featuring Samus shooting some aliens. While a bit outdated by today's standards, Metroid remains an excellent game that introduced many fun mechanics and gameplay elements that are still inspiring other games even now.

Any Metroid fan will know how this series started out, which is what makes this shirt such a great gift for them. It features the cover art for the NES Metroid, including the NES logo and the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality. It's an excellent blast from the past that is sure to become a mainstay in any Metroid fan's wardrobe.

4 SUPER SMASH BROS ULTIMATE

Amazon

Since Samus' inclusion in the original Super Smash Bros, Metroid fans have been waiting for Nintendo to throw them a bone with more characters. Zero Suit Samus was added in Brawl, but she is the same character.

However, Super Smash Bros Ultimate added not one, but two famous antagonists from the Metroid series. The long-awaited Ridley and echo fighter Dark Samus joined the battle, making this game worth it for Metroid fans. Super Smash Bros Ultimate also features some excellent new remixes for Metroid songs as well as the return of popular stages such as Brinstar, Brinstar Depths, and Frigate Orpheon.

3 METROID PRIME AND FUSION SOUNDTRACKS

Amazon

Metroid has some of the best music in gaming. As the series grew, the tracks better communicated the feeling of isolation, exploration, and dread that comes with being an intergalactic bounty hunter. Metroid fans love these tunes, which is what makes the Metroid Prime and Fusion soundtracks a great gift.

This CD contains the music for Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, both great games in the Metroid legacy. These games are often both praised for their soundtracks, especially the former with its changing themes and atmospheric tunes. Either way, any fan of the franchise will listen to these songs over and over.

2 MAX FACTORY ZERO SUIT SAMUS FIGURE

Amazon

Many people were shocked to learn, at the end of Metroid, that Samus was a woman rather than a man. Since then, Nintendo has used that to great effect, having further outfits for her that enable her to perform certain missions better.

That led to the creation of the sleek Zero Suit, which allows Samus to be more agile as the situation requires. Max Factory created an awesome figure for this suit that would be a worthy addition to any Metroid collection. It's poseable, comes with swappable hands, includes her blaster, and even has an extra head to display her younger self from Metroid: Other M.

1 GOOD SMILE SAMUS FIGURE

Amazon

While Samus has a face beneath all that armor, it's her iconic Varia Suit that is most recognizable among fans. This suit has been through the worst, protecting her in numerous fights against Ridley, Kraid, and the rest of the Metroid baddies.

This figure from Good Smile captures the power and weight of the Varia Suit. Having several points of articulation, it's easy to pose this figure in all sorts of cool ways. Because of how the suit is designed, the articulation points also don't look out of place and blend well with the design. The figure comes with beam effects that can be added as well as a Morph Ball.
