Alwa's Awakening, a cute metroidvania that launched two years ago on the Nintendo Switch, is getting a much-deserved sequel later this year. Elden Pixels has officially announced that Alwa's Legacy will release sometime during the summer of 2020.

Alwa's Legacy "honours the past with its 16-bit inspired visuals," but hopes to offer a "contemporary take on the metroidvania genre." Although the original title, Alwa's Awakening, didn't quite get all the attention it deserved, it was still a critical success — and fans of the series are probably itching to get their hands on the sequel.

Elden Pixels recently wrapped up a Kickstarter campaign for Alwa's Legacy, hitting their original goal and then some. The indie developers started their journey back in 2014, and so far, everything seems to be going incredibly well. In fact, the original Alwa's Awakening was only expected to launch on PC, but after much success was ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.

As of now, Alwa's Legacy is only expected to launch on PC and Switch, but we wouldn't be surprised if it ends up doing the same thing as its predecessor. So far, all signs are pointing to another hit — let's just hope word gets out and it gets the attention it deserves. Anyone interested in joining the beta can sign up on the official website.
