"Today is a landmark step in our journey together and I’m incredibly energized by what this step means for Xbox," writes Xbox boss Phil Spencer in the blog post. "Please join me in welcoming all of our friends at Bethesda to Team Xbox."

"I have also had the pleasure of working with, and partnering with, many of the best gaming and tech companies in the world," wrote Bethesda head Todd Howard in a separate post. "But our longest, and closest partner during my career, has been Microsoft."

Howard notes that after Microsoft convinced Bethesda to bring Morrowind to Xbox, the two companies maintained a close relationship throughout the development of titanic titles such as Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim.

"It has been a lifetime," Howard writes. "But there’s more to come and achievements to unlock together. We hope you join us."
