Microsoft Flight Simulator is the biggest game ever to launch on Xbox Game Pass for PC.

It’s almost unreal how big a game Microsoft Flight Simulator has turned out to be. Straight-up simulator games haven’t been in vogue for decades, but Microsoft Flight Simulator has proven there’s an untapped market that was just waiting to be catered to.

Microsoft is also puffing its chest with a few numbers to share. Besides being the biggest launch for a Microsoft Flight Sim game in 38 years (which means it’s already outpacing the original Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0 from 1982), Microsoft Flight Simulator is also the biggest launch ever for any game on Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Sorry, Grounded, you’ve been grounded by a flight-sim game.

And because it's always fun to play with numbers, here's a few more interesting tidbits. Over 1 million unique players have taken to the friendly skies since MS Flight Simulator launched on August 18th, and those players have already racked up 26 million flights and over 1 billion miles flown. That's apparently the equivalent of flying around the world over 40,000 times.

To celebrate their success, Microsoft also provided us with a new “accolades” trailer that basically recaps the glowing reviews MS Flight Simulator has on Metacritic. It also shows the many beautiful vistas you can experience if you were to pick up MS Flight Simulator on PC, although we have to warn you that this game is not for budget rigs. You might want to wait for the new RTX 30-series cards to arrive before you dial MS Flight Simulator up to max graphics settings.

Microsoft isn't done with MS Flight Simulator just because they had a great launch. New DLC is going to be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2020 on September 24. We expect paid DLC to become an ongoing concern for MS Flight Simulator even as the community builds upon the game with free add-ons (and corrections due to Bing).
