Breaking news just sent shock-waves across the streaming world, as Microsoft has announced that Mixer will discontinue on July 22.

The first question that springs into everyone's minds is: "what about all of its partners?" As of now, Microsoft plans on transitioning its streamers to Facebook Gaming – effective immediately. Official statements have yet to come from huge names such as Ninja and Shroud, leaving many to wonder just how recent this massive decision was made (update: Ninja has since tweeted out).

Partners will receive similar monetary options and benefits through the transition, but it won't be without its challenges. Fans of streamers like Shroud and Ninja are having to jump through hoops, following them from platform to platform. That being said, early reports suggest that the aforementioned streamers have received millions from Mixer, and are both currently free agents.

Phil Spencer, the top brass of Gaming at Microsoft, told The Verge that "I think the Mixer community is really going to benefit from the broad audience that Facebook has through their properties, and the abilities to reach gamers in a very seamless way through the social platform Facebook has." This sentiment mirrors comments made by ex-Twitch streaming superstar DisguisedToast, who moved to Facebook towards the end of 2019. "My move to Facebook Gaming will give me a larger platform to share my voice with a global audience and hear their perspectives on the gaming landscape."

Xbox's official statement on the recent partnership emphasizes Facebook's diversity and inclusivity as a platform. Regarding their decision to close Mixer itself, the team states that "it became clear that the time needed to grow our own livestreaming community to scale was out of measure with the vision and experiences we want to deliver to gamers right now." Thus, Microsoft has closed the doors on Mixer and have ushered their streamers towards the open arms of Facebook Gaming.

Some have already theorized that Microsoft plans to integrate Cloudx into Facebook Gaming, and considering the current outlook, the streaming service may even come pre-built into Xbox Series X's dashboard. Microsoft's new partnership with Facebook Gaming certainly raises plenty of questions, but for now we'll have to wait for more details to emerge once the storm settles.
