Thanks to a new update, your Microsoft Surface Duo can now become a handheld gaming console. Microsoft’s chief product officer, Panos Panay, announced in a recent Tweet that Microsoft’s latest update provides Xbox Game Pass support for the Microsoft Surface Duo, which will allow you to play over 50 Xbox games on the dual-screen device.

Prior to this update, Microsoft announced in April that it would finally be bringing xCloud to iOS and PCSelect Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members received invites to beta test Xbox Cloud Gaming on both Windows 10 PCs and iOS devices. The plan is to integrate feedback as quickly as possible in order to make the service more widely available in the near future.

With a Microsoft Surface Duo and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you can turn your devices into handheld consoles. After downloading the Xbox Game Pass app, you will gain access to over 50 games that are currently compatible with touch control support. Some of the available titles include Gears of War 5River City GirlsDead Cells, and Sea of Thieves, and new games will be added as they become enabled with touch control support.

What sets the Microsoft Surface Duo’s new capabilities apart from other xCloud gaming options is its dedicated touch controls. Unlike on a smartphone, the Surface Duo has a second screen that becomes a pad with touch controls, making it feel like a proper handheld gaming system, such as the Nintendo DS. On the other hand, the Surface Duo can't quite compete with a traditional handheld device in the sense that it requires a constant internet connection to play.

While significant adjustments are likely in development, it's great to see Microsoft expanding the reach of Xbox Game Pass to new devices like the Surface Duo. With these recent innovations in mobile gaming, it seems that there will soon be more options than ever before to enjoy your favorite games.
