Eltariel was a powerful ally of Talion’s in Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War. She singlehandedly had been dogging the Nazgul of Mordor for some time before Talion’s efforts caught her attention. The elven warrior would go on to become a major thorn in the Dark Lord’s side in this RPG.

But there are some things about her the casual player may not be aware of or may not have thought through. Whether it’s her mysterious origins, incredible powers, or the nature of her duty, here are the things the average player should know about her.

10 Last Blade Of Galadriel

ME Shadow of War Eltariel Fighting

As a Blade of Galadriel she’s charged with fighting the Ringwraiths to keep them from amassing power. She’s fundamentally an assassin of the elves, sent into another nation’s territory to assassinate their leaders and prevent a rise to power.

It’s also interesting to note she’s the Last Blade, this means Galadriel had sent previous Blades or assassins into other nations in the past. This would suggest that Eltariel was in training to become an assassin in a more traditional sense before being sent to Mordor.

9 Would Rather Ally With The Orcs

ME Shadow of War Eltariel With Orc

Through the game Eltariel frowns on Talion and Celebrimbor’s tactic of dominating Orcs and Uruks to gain their alliance. When she herself obtains the power to do so, she instead chooses to forge alliances with them in a more traditional sense.

The reasons behind this are never made clear. It could be she recognizes not all Orcs are evil, she abhors subjugating any life, or realizes that having a traditional alliance is more beneficial as the subjugation only exists if she retains a ring of power to keep them in line.

8 Glows Gold In The Wraith-World

ME Shadow of War Eltariel Glows Gold

Beings in the Wraith-World, at least their Unseen selves, will emit various auras signifying their true nature. Darker beings will have a dark aura and average beings will have a white or pale aura.

Eltariel is different and will exude a bright gold aura while in the Unseen realm. This could be the result of her pure nature or it could be simply due to the fact she’s an elf. Either way she certainly stands out in the Wraith-World which would make her easier to find for beings like Talion who use this realm to see through walls and find enemies.

7 Wields The Light Of Galadriel

ME Shadow of War Light of Galadriel

The Light of Galadriel is a powerful relic given to Eltariel by Galadriel. It’s a bracer for the left hand that a rune in the palm and a ring on the middle finger. The piece of armor gives Eltariel the ability to infuse her attacks with light magic and can heal her from injury.

Interestingly it can be tweaked with runes to gain other abilities such as fire, poison, frost, control over beasts, or further augment it’s light powers. Given how powerful this item is it stands to reason that Galadriel had a hand in building it herself or it was likely an artifact she herself used.

6 Can Detect The Unseen

ME Shadow of War Eltariel With Celebrimbor

Eltariel managed to surprise both Talion and the Bright Lord when she revealed that she could peer into the Unseen world and detect Celebrimbor. It’s an ability that seems exclusive to wraiths or other dark beings so for her to possess such a power is surprising.

It could be an ability unique to Eltariel which is why she was chosen for her task. It may also be that the Light of Galadriel gives her this ability somehow. Either way it makes her ideally equipped to fighting Nazgul.

5 Can Injure Wraiths

ME Shadow Of War Eltariel, Talion, Celibrimbor

She also possesses the ability to severely injure Ringwraiths. While they aren’t invincible and can theoretically be damaged by any source, they are incredibly resilient and can shrug off most common weapons. In fact, Ringwraiths are typically only truly harmed by weapons enchanted specifically for this purpose.

That Eltariel is able to harm them so severely is likely a result of the Light of Galadriel. This bracer infuses her strikes with light magic which would be enough to deal strong blows against these dark beings.

4 Might Be A Vanyar

Me Shadow of War Eltariel Vanyar With Galadriel

A likely reason Eltariel was chosen for this task and is able to perceive the Unseen is because she isn’t a high elf like Galadriel or her people. Eltariel has blonde hair and purple eyes, features not seen in Galadriel’s kingdom or most elves for that matter.

In fact there’s only one elven clan known in Middle-Earth to possess such features, the mysterious Vanyar. According to the lore, these fair-haired elves were the first to come into existence and were quick to travel to the Undying Lands of Valinor leaving Middle-Earth behind. Whether she came from Valinor, which is unlikely, or was a Vanyar that remained behind is unclear.

3 Refuses To Dominate Any Being

ME Shadow of War Eltariel Final Fight

Though she’s charged with fighting the Ringwraiths and having an army of her own to carry out such battle would be immensely helpful, she never dominates another being when she has the power to. In fact, it’s something that causes her to distrust Talion and Celebrimbor.

She won’t even use it to subjugate a Nazgul. It could be that she abhors the idea of stripping away free will or invading the mind of any being, regardless of the nature of that being. It’s simply a moral line she refuses to cross no matter how beneficial it would be to her cause.

2 Is Likely Corrupted Herself

ME Shadow of War Eltariel Alongside Celebrimbor

Through out the game Eltariel shows a great distrust in Talion and seems to acknowledge that at some point she’ll have to kill him due to the corruption he’s suffering. Perhaps seeing the Nazgul in action showed how powerful their corruption could be.

Unfortunately, there is evidence to suggest she may be corrupted herself. For starters she agrees to be a host for Celebrimbor and usurp the Dark Lord, taking the throne for himself and conquering Middle-Earth. After the Dark Lord’s death she is seen going after Celebrimbor to “answer his call.” Considering the Dark Lord is dead and the Ringwraiths are no more it stands to reason she would only seek him out to assist him with his ultimate goal, becoming the next Dark Lord.

1 She Was Charged With Being A Distraction

Me Shadow of War Eltariel With Orc Allies

Perhaps part of the reason she may have been corrupted is due to the nature of her quest. Galadriel charged her with fighting the Nazgul and preventing them from leaving the Land of Shadow into the open world. Galadriel must have known they were unkillable considering she charged Eltariel with fighting them.

In fact, Galadriel becomes angry with Eltariel when she tries to defeat Sauron and reminds her that her task is to battle the Ringwraiths. This suggests that Galadriel’s intention for Eltariel was for her to serve as a distraction while the right powers and alliances were mustered for the final battle.
