Marvel's Midnight Suns, announced today during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, will feature a dozen playable characters from across Marvel's many superteams, including the Avengers, X-Men, and the Runaways.

An adaptation of 1992's Rise of the Midnight Sons cross-over event, Midnight Suns will feature an eclectic group of Marvel heroes who are known for their connection to the occult. While several of the heroes will be familiar to MCU and casual comic fans, like Iron Man and Captain Marvel, many of Midnight Suns characters will be introduced to players for the first time.

According to Jake Solomon, Midnight Suns' creative director at Firaxis Games, Magik from the X-Men and Nico Minoru from the Runaways are just two of the heroes in the game he's most looking forward to introducing to MCU fans. While neither character was featured in the original Rise of the Midnight Sons storyline (Nico wasn't even created until 2003 in Runaways #1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona), Solomon and his team are taking the opportunity to introduce even more characters in their unique adaptation of the classic cross-over event. "I’m particularly excited for players to get the chance to learn about Magik," Solomon says. "who is one of my favorite Marvel heroes."

The cinematic trailer that premiered at Gamescom also featured Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Blade, and Ghost Rider, but there are still a few heroes in Midnight Suns that haven't been revealed yet. Fans of the original comic story might have some guesses though, as the original Order of the Midnight Sons included characters like Victoria Montesi, Louise Hasting, Sam Buchanan, Elsa Bloodstone, Doctor Voodoo, Man-Thing, and Iron Fist. One of the most prominent characters in Rise of the Midnight Sons is Morbius, who is the title character in an upcoming film starring Jared Leto. Additionally, while original Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze was featured in the original story, Solomon confirmed that Robbie Reyes, the most recent Ghost Rider, is the one featured in the game.

There will be a gameplay reveal on September 1 at 11:30 AM pacific time on the official Midnight Suns website. Midnight Suns is coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch in March 2022.
