The dream of a Mega Man successor developed by the original creator of the series is coming to an end, or at least it is for Sony fans in Japan, as Mighty No. 9 is being delisted from the PlayStation Store in Japan today.

Mighty No. 9 is an action platformer that was initially funded by fans through Kickstarter, as it was promoted as being a spiritual successor to Mega Man at a time when Capcom was doing nothing with the license. The Kickstarter project for Mighty No. 9 was followed by numerous controversies and delays, culminating in a game that received mixed to negative reviews. The planned Mighty No. 9 multimedia franchise evaporated and a lot of fans were left disappointed, but at least Capcom was spurred to revive the Mega Man series.

The story of Beck is being scrubbed from the PlayStation Store in Japan. According to Anime News NetworkMighty No. 9 will be delisted from PSN in Japan on November 15, which means that the digital version of the game cannot be purchased for either PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 from that point on. It's impossible to purchase the game on the PlayStation Vita, as it was originally promised for that system but the port was canceled alongside the planned Nintendo 3DS version.

It's currently unknown why Mighty No. 9 is being delisted in Japan. There is currently no indication that Mighty No. 9 is going to be delisted in other regions or on other storefronts.

It will still be possible for people to play the physical edition of Mighty No. 9 in Japan, as it was released on disc for both PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4. It would also be possible for fans to create international PSN accounts in order to download games from other regions, so there are workarounds available for the Japanese gamers who can't get enough of Beck. Mighty No. 9 is also available on a number of different platforms, so it's strange that it would only be removed from the PlayStation Store in a single region.
