Genshin Impact has become enormously popular since its release back in September, but that rapid growth has come with problems. One of the larger issues facing developer Mihoyo is player security. We received dozens of reports from players saying that they had their Genshin Impact account stolen by hackers. Some players lost thousands of dollars--money that Miohoyo refused to refund.

The security issue has only gotten worse since then, but at least now Mihoyo is finally taking action. The latest Genshin Impact update adds two-factor authentication so that logins from new devices will have to be verified before anyone can gain access to their accounts.

"A new security verification function will take effect when you log in,” writes Mihoyo on its website. “Once this function is active, a verification code will be sent to your linked email address or mobile number when you log in to a new device to ensure that it is you using that device."

As with pretty much every two-factor auth system, the verification code will be unique every time and must be typed in on non-approved devices. You can manage your login devices on your Mihoyo account via Account > Account Management > Login Devices.

Eula close up

Mihoyo is asking all Genshin Impact players to update their profiles with email and mobile phone numbers now so that they can enable two-factor authentication.

In other news, Eula will be the next five-star character added to Genshin Impact as of this week's banner update, which arrives tomorrow. Along with Eula's story quest, you'll also be able to grab new gear, such as the Song of Broken Pines and Aquila Favonia swords.
