Minecraft is full of a variety of different tools, and with different tools comes many great Enchantments. From a sword to a pickaxe, every kind of tool has a whole host of unique enchantments to go along with it. Some are more useful than others, but every enchantment has its place in Minecraft.

This list will give players a guide to ten of the most useful enchantments for tools in the game. These are only effects from vanilla Minecraft; this isn't including Minecraft mods. From enchantments that spawn infinite arrows to enchantments that make the player's tool more durable, these are some amazing tool enchantments in the blocky game of Minecraft.

Updated April 24th, 2021 by Michael Caruso: Minecraft has many more enchantments than the original ten that were included in this article. Specifically, many strong weapon enchantments were originally left out. With all of the updates and new weapons added over the years, it is important to use all of the other powerful enchantments that exist to maximize battle potential against the mobs in Minecraft. If you need some new enchantments for your crossbow, bow, or sword, look no further.

15 Bane Of Arthropods

Bane of arthropods is an enchantment that is useful while fighting enemies such as spiders, cave spiders, silverfish, bees, and endermites. This enchantment deals extra damage towards each of these enemy types, and the damage increase will be higher for every rank of the enchantment.

Although there are some other enchantments that deal more damage towards enemies, the bane of arthropods enchantment is the only effect that specifically focuses on these mobs and grants a damage bonus towards them.

14 Fire Aspect

Fire Aspect is not only a powerful enchantment, but it is also one of the most fun effects that a sword can be enchanted with. Fire aspect sets enemies on fire, which will then burn the enemy for extra damage.

The Fire Aspect enchantment can also be used to defeat other players on the server if they can be set on fire. Overall, adventurers that want a fun enchantment with a strong effect should enchant their sword with fire aspect for maximum damage. However, this enchantment isn't very powerful in the Snowy Tundra biome.

13 Piercing

Piercing is a unique enchantment because it allows a single bolt from a crossbow to fire through multiple enemies, damaging more than a single enemy with just one hit.

The piercing enchantment can even pass through shields, which means that an enemy blocking won't stop the effect from occurring. Crossbows have a few powerful enchantments, but this is one of the best effects, without a doubt.

12 Looting

Players that enjoy farming for items that drop from mobs will enjoy using the looting enchantment. This enchantment adds extra drops to every mob killed, and it also increases the chance of rare drops such as swords.

For example, if a skeleton is killed while using a weapon with the looting enchantment, then it will drop more bones than it usually would without this special effect. Looting is an important enchantment that every type of Minecraft player should have.

11 Multishot

Multishot is another powerful crossbow enchantment that was added into the game alongside crossbows. Multishot can save large amounts of arrows because it allows for 3 arrows to shoot at once at only the cost of 1, which will be helpful over the course of the time using the enchanted weapon.

Although this enchantment is only applicable to crossbows, it is still one of the strongest enchantments in the entire game. There is only 1 level of the Multishot enchantment.

10 Power

The power enchantment increases the amount of damage that a bow deals to the player's enemy. Anybody who has played Minecraft knows that although bows are great for their range, they do little damage in comparison to higher-tier swords.

The power enchantment is one of the most useful enchantments in the game because bows are essential in defeating certain enemies that the player doesn't want to get close to, such as creepers. Every player needs at least one bow with this powerful enchantment.

9 Efficiency

The efficiency enchantment makes mining a breeze and saves players lots of time. Anybody who has mined out a basement under their house or chopped down an entire forest knows that it can be extremely time-consuming, and many players just can't deal with the boring grind of it all.

Naturally, builders will search for a solution, and in the place of one, they use the efficiency enchantment on their pickaxe, axe, or shovel. This enchantment makes clearing land for a dream house or destroying a giant jungle a quick project.

8 Luck Of The Sea

Luck of the sea increases the player's chance to find treasure on their hook, but it comes with the cost of decreasing the chance of getting fish or junk from their enchanted fishing rod. Searching for treasure has never been easier than now because of this enchantment.

It can be frustrating for players to fish for treasure for hours and come up short, but luckily the luck of the sea enchantment exists to help solve this problem. Although this enchantment only gives fishing rides a slight boost in treasure chance, it is still essential for any player that regularly goes fishing in an ocean or any other Minecraft biome with water. This is an enchantment fit for a pirate.

7 Unbreaking

The unbreaking enchantment is one of the most useful enchantments in the game because it can be applied to so many items, and it helps players save their materials that they would end up using on crafting new tools. Depending on the tier, this enchantment can make a player's tool last much longer and be able to mine more without the tool breaking.

There are many reasons players would need a more durable tool. The unbreaking enchantment will ensure that a player can mine or dig for a long time without their tool ever breaking. Loggers and miners absolutely love this Minecraft enchantment, and it's easy to see why. New Minecraft players need to make sure to craft an unbreaking pickaxe as soon as possible.

6 Smite

The smite enchantment is useful because it increases damage output towards undead enemies, and it is most useful when fighting the extremely common skeletons and zombies. Because of how common these mobs are, this enchantment is a must-have for any player that plays on easy, normal, or hard mode.

There are few downsides to this enchantment but one downside it does have is that it doesn't deal any extra damage towards creepers. Miners have to find a different defense against those annoying enemies.

5 Lure

The lure enchantment decreases the wait time for players to get a fish on their fishing rod. Any seasoned fisherman in Minecraft will know that although the wait time for a fish biting a player's hook isn't too long, it adds up over time which can make fishing in Minecraft a grind.

The lure enchantment is helpful for adventurers who enjoy the serenity of fishing in Minecraft or that need some quick food for the harder difficulties. Every player with a fishing rod and an enchantment table needs to consider enchanting at least one fishing rod with this enchantment.

4 Fortune

The fortune enchantment gives the user a chance to obtain more of the item mined by the enchanted tool. Ores can usually only give one gem per block, but with this enchantment, you can get more than one diamond, emerald, and many other gems from just one block.

This enchantment is surprisingly useful compared to some of the other tool enchantments. Players who like to go mining and collect diamonds or other gems should already have a pickaxe with this enchantment; if they don't, then they should definitely try to get one.

3 Infinity

Infinity is the best bow enchantment in Minecraft. Its effect makes the enchanted bow stop requiring arrows completely and gives unlimited arrows out to the player for free.

Adventurers with this enchantment can save their flint and feathers because as long as they have their enchanted bow, they won't need to craft any arrows. It can also be combined with other great bow enchantments, which makes infinity even more enticing. This enchantment is especially useful for fighting creepers or the ender dragon because the user can spam them with unlimited arrows. Archers need to have this in their arsenal; it's a must-have for all players.

2 Sharpness

Sharpness increases the damage output of melee weapons in Minecraft, which is extremely useful because this enchantment increases damage output against every mob in the game, including those pesky creepers. There are multiple stages to this enchantment which makes it even better.

A diamond sword with a sharpness enchantment will slay any mob with swiftness and grace. Make sure to have a sword with this enchantment before going into battle with the Ender Dragon or the Wither boss; it will ensure that the player who wields the enchanted sword is victorious.

1 Silk Touch

The silk touch enchantment is possibly the most useful and also the most unique enchantment in Minecraft. This enchantment makes it so that the tool will make the destroyed block drop its base block instead of a new block such as dirt or cobblestone.

Silk touch is necessary for any builder who is trying to build a structure out of stone brick or who wants to display basic ore blocks around their in-game house. There really aren't many enchantments that can rival this one in usefulness which is why the silk touch enchantment deserves high praise.
