In this article, we'll show you how you can make your own blast furnace to improve your home base and why you should have one. Either way, even if you decide not to get one, you'll still learn something new about the game so it's always worth a shot.

How To Craft A Blast Furnace

Crafting a blast furnace actually requires a bit more work than a furnace. Whereas for a furnace you only need eight blocks of cobblestone, for a blast furnace you'll need a wider variety of materials.

You need five iron ingots, one furnace, and three blocks of smooth stone. You can get smooth stone by smelting regular stone. Regular stone can be made by smelting cobblestone or by mining it with a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment. The image above shows how you should place each ingredient when using the crafting table.

Alternatively, you can also visit a village and try to find an armorer house. Although this is up to chance, there is no guarantee that one will spawn in a village.

Why You Should Get A Blast Furnace

reasons to get blast furnace

There are several reasons why it's worth the trouble crafting this specialized furnace. The main reason is its speed compared to the regular furnace. The blast furnace will smelt ore twice as fast as the furnace. However, unfortunately, this also means that coal will burn twice as fast and you will only receive half as much experience points from smelting. It can also only be used exclusively for ore, gear, tools. You can't use it to cook any meat or vegetables. If you want to cook some food and get it done fast you might want to get yourself a smoker.

But, after a long day in the mines, with an inventory full of precious ore, sometimes it's just necessary to smelt the materials as fast as possible.

Another important use for the blast furnace is its role as a villager job site block. If placed in a village, an unemployed villager can use it and become an armorer. If you've never made a village before, here's our guide on how you can do it, they are definitely worth the effort. Armorers are particularly useful villagers to have in your village because once they reach Expert and Master level, they will trade Diamond Gear for Emeralds.
