In Minecraft Dungeons your armor helps to establish your role in the game. As there is no class system in place, your strengths and weaknesses are variable depending on the combination of armor, weapons, artifacts, and enchants you employ. Due to this, it can be helpful to have several sets of armor on hand to swap and change, but which are the best?

We take a look at the different armor types and rank the very best armor sets available right now. While they all serve different purposes, some are more useful overall, easier to get hold of, or just plain overpowered.

Updated January 15th, 2021, By Helen Ashcroft: Since the release of Minecraft Dungeons we've seen three new DLC packs. These are Jungle Awakens, Creeping Winter, and Howling Peaks. As more content is added more armor sets have also made their way into the game.

To take into account the new armor sets in these packs, as well as some others that have turned out to be more useful than first thought, we've updated this list and added new recommendations for the very best pieces of armor in Minecraft Dungeons.

15 Climbing Gear

Climbing Gear was introduced with the Howling Peaks DLC and is quite situational but incredibly useful for navigating the new content. The basic gear includes an artifact cooldown bonus as well as pushback resistance. It can be found in Colossal Rampart and Windswept Peaks.

There are two Unique variants. The Rugged Climbing Gear gives you environmental damage resistance and freezing resistance as well as the artifact cooldown boost. If you want to keep to pushback resistance then Goat Gear offers this plus an extra roll and the artifact boost.

14 Snow Armor

The Snow Armor is the Creeping Winter DLC and has a Unique variant called Frost Armor. It offers damage reduction and freezing resistance, which is incredibly helpful in the DLC, especially when exploring unknown areas. The Frost Armor also emits a chilling aura.

You can pick up Snow Armor from Lone Fortress and Lost Settlement or acquire it from a luxury merchant.

13 Thief Armor

Thief Armor provides a nice melee attack boost but comes into its own if you can find a Unique Spider Armor set which also includes a life steal aura. It may not be as powerful as some armor sets but it's still incredibly versatile.

You'll find it in Desert Temple, Red Stone Mines, and Overgrown Temple. It can also be found in the supplies of the luxury and village merchants.

12 Evocation Robe

If you're a ranged player who prefers artifacts to arrows then the Evocation Robe is a solid choice. It will provide a reduction to artifact cooldown, giving greater versatility to a lineup of magical artifacts. The robe also provides a movement speed aura, helping you get out of the way of danger quicker. The Unique, Verdant Robe, also increases your maximum souls and gives a +1 to your soul gathering.

Soul Robes drop in Soggy Swamp, Soggy Cave, Obsidian Pinnacle, and Panda Plateau and are also available from the village merchant making them easy to acquire.

11 Ocelot Armor

Ocelot Armor came with the Jungle Awakens DLC and offers damage reduction and a faster roll speed. If you can get your hands on the Shadow Walker Unique it also gives you brief invulnerability while you roll which is useful for getting out of difficult situations.

You can find Ocelot Armor in the Dingy Jungle and Overgrown Temple and equipping it will make your character look great. Sadly, that doesn't offer any extra benefit.

10 Mercenary Armor

Mercenary Armor is perfect for players who want to be in the middle of the action. It provides a dual boost of damage reduction and an increase in weapon damage. This makes it much safer to stand in groups of mobs. The Mercenary Armor is a common drop but the Unique version is worth seeking out as it adds a 25% melee attack speed buff, greatly increasing its power.

You'll find Mercenary Armor in Cacti Canyon, Fiery Forge, Arch Haven, Overgrown Temple, and Soggy Swamp daily trials. The village, Luxury, and Mystery Merchants also carry it.

9 Battle Robe

The Battle Robe is a versatile piece of armor. It will increase your melee damage and reduce the cooldown on your artifacts. While it doesn't protect as well as some armor sets, your increased damage will help shorten battles.

This is a great choice for those who want a little flexibility and some extra DPS to bring to the table. The Unique variant will also add 30% to your melee damage.

Find it in Creepy Crypt, Redstone Mines, Fristed Fjord, Colossal Rampart, and in the inventory of Luxury, Mystery, and Village merchants.

8 Grim Armor

Grim Armor is a strong choice for players looking to build a character that utilizes soul harvesting. It offers a huge boost to soul gathering, meaning soul-based artifacts will gain more power quicker. It also contains a life-stealing aura and the Unique version, Wither Armor, will also give damage reduction.

You can find Grim Armor in Desert Temple, Obsidian Pinnacle, and in Cacti Canyon daily trials. It's also available from the village merchant.

7 Champion's Armor

If you truly want to tank then look out for Champion's armor. It will provide you with a health boost, damage reduction buff, a chance to revive on death, and will encourage mobs to attack you more. All perfect tanking bonuses.

This armor is the closest you can get to a tank class and it's incredibly powerful, especially when combined with the right weapons, artifacts, and enchants. The Unique version, Hero's Armor, also allows health potions to heal nearby allies.

Find it in Cacti Canyon, Arch Haven, and Lone Fortress. Village and mystery merchants also have Champion's armor but it can only be picked up in apocalypse, making it hard to get hold of.

6 Dark Armor

Dark Armor will help with soul gathering and also contains a damage reduction buff which is incredibly helpful for survivability. It's a strong addition to a soul gathering setup but there are more powerful options overall. Titan's Shroud, the Unique, also gives a 20% weapon damage boost aura.

You can find Dark Armor in Fiery Forge, Underhalls, and Lost Settlement in Apocalypse or from the village merchant.

5 Hunter's Armor

The Hunter's armor set is a frequent and easy to find drop that's a must for any archer class lovers. As a ranged player, you'll find the biggest issue you have is arrows. It's here that the hunter's armor comes into its own. Not only does the armor offer a buff to ranged damage but it also gives you an extra 10 arrows per bundle, which is almost 50% extra, since a bundle is 25. The Unique also offers a move speed aura.

Hunter's armor is found in Pumpkin pastures, Creeper Woods. Creepy Crypt and from the village, luxury and mystery merchants.

4 Phantom Armor

Phantom Armor offers a soul gathering boost as well as a bonus to ranged damage. This makes it a great choice for soul builds that rely on ranged weapons. The Unique, Frost Bite, will also summon a cute Snowy companion that can take the heat off a little if you are soloing.

You'll find Phantom Armor in Redstone Mines, Creepy Crypt, Soggy Cave, and Frosted Fjord so it's easier to lay your hands on than some other options with similar buffs.

3 Soul Robe

Soul gatherers should keep an eye out for the Soul Robe. It offers a boost to soul collecting as well as a power boost to artifacts, a combination you can't refuse. There's no need to worry about healing if you combine this with a soul-based healing artifact. The Unique Souldancer Robe also offers a chance to negate hits.

Soul Robes can be found in Highblock Halls, Underhalls, Lone Fortress, and Creeper Woods as well as from the village merchant.

2 Spelunker Armor

Spelunker Armor not only looks good but it will also give your character a boost to all weapon damage as well as summoning a bat to fight by your side. This makes it incredibly versatile and cool looking. As if that wasn't enough, if you can grab the unique Cave Crawler version then you'll also gain a huge boost to your artifact power, giving you the best of all worlds.

1 Wolf Armor

Wolf Armor is one of the most versatile options in the game. Its weapon damage boost aura increases your strength regardless of which weapon you use and the ability for health potions to heal nearby allies means you can boost your party as you heal yourself.

There are two Unique variants of Wolf Armor in the main game. The first is Fox Armor that also adds a chance to negate hits, incredibly useful for those relying on damage over armor. The Black Wolf Armor is more situational, adding a reduced roll cooldown.

All variants are available from Creeper Woods, Redstone Mines, and Lost Settlement as well as from luxury and mystery merchants. This makes Wolf Armor easy to acquire and a fantastic all-rounder.
