Will Herobrine make an appearance in Minecraft Dungeons? This important question is gripping Minecraft Dungeons players lately. Not surprisingly, the team at Mojang has remained quiet on this subject, given that the character is technically a player-created meme.

For those who don’t know, Herobrine is a community created character, typically depicted as the default base character Steve, with all-white, often glowing eyes. That is it. The character is rarely seen and, according to IGN, Herobrine is often said to be on servers in secret, responsible for random buildings and constructions that are difficult to explain. There's also murky, distant, non-repeatable sightings. The video below sums up the legend in a bite-sized three minutes.

Herobrine has never appeared in anything officially released by the teams at Minecraft or Mojang. Despite this, original designer Notch has often left Easter Eggs throughout the Minecraft universe that fuel the speculation of Herobrine’s existence, including a cryptic 2011 update note which included “Removed Herobrine.” Notch has officially answered the question on Twitter as well, and instead of tamping down the rumor, it only fueled greater excitement surrounding the character.

Given the fascination and fun surrounding the mystery of Herobrine, users on Reddit have proposed that the ghastly character would provide a great easter egg or even boss to the new Minecraft Dungeons. While a fascinating theory, the game has been confirmed to take place in the Minecraft Universe, and if Herobrine did officially appear, it would be a significant shift from the above confirmations that Herobrine did not in fact exist.

While Herobrine may remain officially unavailable, similar to the original Minecraft game, many are hopeful that complete character customization will become available. Currently, customization is limited to pre-made skins, with more set to unlock with the upcoming DLCs. If complete customization does become available, fans are sure to quickly attempt to white out those default eyes to bring the myth to the game.

Overall, Minecraft Dungeons has provided a plethora of characters to choose from, but seems to have deliberately avoided this one to date. While the team at Mojang has not been opposed to Easter Eggs, prominently displayed with examples like the secret cow level, it seems that Herobrine will remain a community hero for the time being, as opposed to an official character.
