Experience points are highly valuable in Minecraft. They let you enchant your gear and turn yourself into an overpowered raid boss all mobs will come to fear. However, actually getting experience points in Minecraft is pretty tedious. The best way to do it is to build farms, some of which take a lot of resources, extensive redstone knowledge, and time to complete.
Once you've defeated the Ender Dragon, you can start farming Endermen very reliably in the End. Many Enderman farms are massive in size, and there are a hundred ways to make super-efficient mega-farms. This design, created originally by a talented YouTuber Chapman, is the best so far for solo survival worlds due to its easy design, short build time, and low resource cost. All you need is a bit of patience when spawning in your Endermites and you'll be rewarded with infinite XP.
Required Items For An Enderman Farm
To start off, you need a few simple resources. The most expensive one you'll need to farm is probably Ender Pearls, but once you have several stacks of those, you should be good to go when it comes to the costly and difficult part of this build.
- 2 x Water buckets
- Stacks of Ender Pearls (as many as you can afford)
- 1 x Minecart
- 1 x Rail
- 6 x Trap doors
- 9 x Leaf blocks
- 2 x Chests
- 6 x Hoppers
- 1 x Name tag
- Random blocks
- 42 x Ladders
Even Out The Central End Island
Once you've defeated the Ender Dragon, start leveling out the central End Island. You don't actually have to make your Enderman farm here, but using the fountain as a point of reference makes this design easy to complete. You can also build this on any other End Island, though always make sure the island is "deep" enough since you'll have to mine down.
Build A Leaf Block Barrier
On any side of the fountain, count five blocks out. On the fifth block, start placing the leaf blocks in a three-by-three barrier as seen above. This will mark the entrance of the hole into which your Enderman will be lured.
On the other side of the barrier, mine out a three-by-two moat and line one side of it with three trap doors. Place the remaining three trap doors against the bottom row of leaf blocks as seen above.
Build A Temporary Housing For Your Endermite
The way these farms work is by luring Endermen in with an Endermite. Your Endermite will be housed on top of the middle fountain's pillar, where the Dragon Egg first spawns. To spawn an Endermite there, create a temporary casing out of any block you have, and make sure the walls are two blocks high. Next to the fountain pillar block, place another block. So, in the end, you should have a two-by-one area like this.
On the block next to the bedrock fountain pillar block, place a single rail. Now, with your Ender Pearls and while standing on the bedrock block, start throwing pearls onto the block with a rail. Eventually, you should be able to spawn an Endermite but beware of your health suffering during this process. It'll all be worth it in the end.
Once an Endermite spawns, be ready with a name tag and a minecart to trap it. The name tag will ensure your Endermite won't ever despawn, no matter how far away you are. Place the minecart down on the rails and walk back and forth until the cart captures the Endermite and is resting on top of the bedrock block (and not on top of the rails).
Add Water Around The Fountain's Pillar
Endermen hate water, and so your newly spawned Endermite must be protected with it. On opposite sides of the pillar, make sure to add your buckets of water. This will force the Endermen to path around the Endermite in a specific way and guide them inside your farm.
Build The Main Room Of The Farm
While your Endermite waits patiently, return to the little moat you made earlier with trapdoors. Mine down 42 blocks and be careful not to fall into the void. You can mine out fewer blocks if you want, but a 42 block drop ensures that you only need to hit the Endermen once at the bottom of the pit, saving you time. You can calculate what level you need to get to by checking your current coordinates from the debug screen by pressing F3.
At the bottom of the pit, mine out a little room. You can place a double chest next to the 3 by 2 drop area, and make sure you keep the wall outside of the drop area two blocks high to ensure no Endermen spawn inside.
Add in your six hoppers to the drop area. To ensure they all connect to your double chest, crouch and connect the first one to the chest by placing your crosshair on the chest. The rest can be placed by aiming your crosshair on the hopper you'd like them to connect to.
On top of the hoppers, you'll want to add a layer of six slabs on top of which your Endermen can fall. The slabs are considered air blocks, so nothing will spawn on them. On top of that, they allow any drops to fall through into the hoppers.
At the back of your main chamber, carve out a little hallway and dig your way back up using ladders. You can also build a water elevator to get back up faster.
Release The Endermite And Start Farming XP
Once the entire build is complete, remove the blocks surrounding the Endermite. The minecart should be resting at the center of the bedrock pillar, as seen above.
Almost as soon as you remove at least half of the blocks covering your Endermite, you'll notice the Endermen beginning to swarm. Any of them within 64 blocks of the Endermite will rush towards it and end up in your farm. Given how often Endermen will spawn on the central island, you won't need to worry about spawn rates so long as you don't cover the island with torches.
Go back down to your farm and you should have plenty of Endermen to farm for Ender Pearls and easy experience points. Happy farming!
