To make serious progress in Minecraftyou’ll need strong enchantments that give you various benefits, but in your hunt for these enchanted items and books you’re likely to come across the Curse of Binding. This problematic enchantment causes the player to be unable to remove any item that has the curse until it breaks naturally or the player dies.

This is an annoyance for survival players, but a major problem for hardcore players who can’t afford to die. This dilemma has been made fun of by many players who’ve made some hilarious memes. There are certainly more of these memes out there, but here are some of the memorable ones.

10 Student Loans

Probably one of the darker memes on this list, but still funny. For many people, student loans are a looming debt they carry with them for many, many years. Even the most financially savvy individuals have to work hard while in college to avoid them or make some sacrifices and work hard to pay them off early after graduation.

This meme suggests that our student loans are cursed with binding causing them to stick with us. Fortunately like in the game this curse can be removed given time, but for now it’s a self-inflicted burden we can laugh about in memes and then sigh as we make payments on them in real-life.

9 Wet Socks

Whether you see this as part of the infamous, but short-lived, wet socks challenge or a play on the Fortnite memes, this one is pretty entertaining for Minecraft. The idea of having something as annoying as wet socks permanently affixed to your feet would be awful.

It would be entertaining to see a short video spoof of the Avengers attempting to remove cursed wet socks from one of their members. It’d be like a bizarre version of the team attempting to lift Thor’s hammer in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

8 Wife

This meme shows an in-game journal entry of a player who suggests that once you place a curse of binding enchantment on your girlfriend she becomes your wife. It’s a chuckle worthy meme that could be interpreted as a good thing if your wife is awesome or a bad thing if the relationship is going sour.

Hopefully, it’s the former, but in either case, make sure your wife’s not around if you laugh at this meme. We certainly hope this player’s wife doesn’t find out or she’s likely to take some TNT to his Minecraft world and then his real world situation goes from survival to hardcore mode.

7 Binding Foods

We’ve all been there, you smear a little Brie on a slice of bread and the next thing you know you’ve eaten the entire block of cheese. In a world with items like fried cheese curds, mozzarella cheese sticks, seven cheese lasagna, and cheddar cheese pops there are bound to be times when you have just a little too much cheese in your diet.

This meme suggests that moment feels a lot like being afflicted with the curse of binding in Minecraft. Rather than hopping into a lake of lava in real-life to solve the problem, try a glass of prune juice.

6 Lego

Legos can be seen as the real-world equivalent of Minecraft and probably the game’s inspiration. Many Minecraft players likely had childhood’s filled with putting together three dimensional structures before taking things to the digital world when the game came out.

This hilarious meme reminds us of the dangers these items carry when left forgotten on the ground. Stepping on these certainly feels like it’s been cursed with Sharpness V, Impaling V, and Unbreaking X. Curse of Binding suggests this particularly small and sharp Lego would be stepped on and then not come out of the person’s foot easily, which is less funny the more you think about it.

5 Marriage

There are two ways to interpret this funny meme. On one hand, it could be suggesting that marriage is like having yourself enchanted with a curse of binding, which as established before can be great or terrible depending on who your significant other is.

The other interpretation, which is equally amusing, is that the thought of coming across a curse of binding is favorable when compared to getting married. There’s probably a joke somewhere associating death in Minecraft to divorce in the real world to remove a curse, but that’s best left for another day.

4 Ex Girlfriend

In a bit of a twist from the memes about wives and marriage, this meme suggests that some exes could be affixed with the curse of binding which is why they keep resurfacing in our lives. Whether this nasty habit is the result of a curse or is the curse is up to your interpretation.

In any case, it’s a simple meme that’s good for a chuckle but raises some dark and eerie questions the more you draw the comparison between exes and the mechanics of the curse of binding.

3 Curse of Binding Vs Vanishing

This amusing meme demonstrates the difference between normal survival players and hardcore players. A curse of vanishing is certainly a problem for survival players who expect to die now and then, while it’s not a concern for hardcore players who don’t or can’t die.

But curse of binding is probably the only curse both sides fear. Hardcore players can’t be saddled with items they can’t remove and survival players don’t want to go through the annoyance of dying to get the item off. But even so it’s definitely a horror unique to hardcore players who probably react similarly to Patrick when confronted with this curse.

2 Advertising

This great meme shows a tool enchanted with a laundry list of beneficial effects but coupled with curses. On its own that would be funny as it is, especially when you consider having a diamond hoe enchanted with Knockback II.

But what makes the meme great is that it suggests this is what certain products are like in real-life, but dressed up in advertisements. There are two ways to look at it, the product does have a lot of nice features, but it’s as useful as a diamond hoe, or every product has a significant downside to its use like medications often have.

1 Cursed Mending

To round things out is probably the funniest meme on this list and a major decision when playing Minecraft. Arguably the most useful enchantment in the entire game is Mending. With Mending, your items will self-repair with experience orbs meaning with careful use they’ll never break and you never have to spend resources repairing or replacing them.

But this particular enchanted book comes with a catch, to get Mending you have to permanently affix the item to your character and never take it off. This gets worse when you realize the only way to remove this item is through death or by it breaking, which it won’t do with Mending. Whether you use it or ditch it is a hard choice that even Thanos would struggle with.
