With over 70 mobs in Minecraft, you might be curious which ones are the largest. From passive entities to hostile entities, the consensus is clear. The tallest creatures tend to be hostile mobs. If you were hoping that axolotls and bees were part of that crowd, it was never meant to be.

Unsurprisingly, some of the tallest mobs are what you'd expect them to be, like Ghasts, The Wither, and the Ender Dragon. It would be unusual if boss mobs were outsized by regular mobs like Spider Jockeys and Skeletons. However, some mobs are much larger than you would imagine.

10 Elder Guardians

Minecraft Elder Guardians are 1.999 Blocks Tall

The average hostile mob is between 1.8 to 1.9 blocks tall. The Elder Guardian barely beats its competition by 0.075 blocks. At a radial size of 1.9975 blocks, the Elder Guardian is one of the ten largest mobs in the game.

When you're plundering an Ocean Monument, are you actively paying attention to the size of the angry fish shooting lasers at you? Of course not! Unless you're well-equipped and have an ample supply of night vision potions, you're not going to spend all that time checking mob sizes. You do what most players do: you check the wiki.

9 Slime And Magma Cubes

Minecraft Magma Cubes and Slimes are 2.08 Blocks Tall

Magma Cubes and Slimes are practically the same mob, so it would make sense that they're the same size. At 2.08 blocks, both are fractionally taller than Elder Guardians but taller all the same. Of course, they're only taller than most mobs as long as you don't cut them down into smaller cubes and slimes.

Despite their parallels, it's more probable that you encounter Magma Cubes in a typical session than Slimes. Anyone can get a Nether Portal up and running. Slimes are a different story. You have to be lucky enough to find a slime chunk while traversing underground.

8 Ravagers

Minecraft Ravagers are 2.2 Blocks Tall

Ravagers, Illager siege tools and mounts, stand at 2.2 blocks tall. These large beasts seem more like giant cows with a villager's face plastered on them. It's a design choice that opens the door to some potentially horrifying implications, and we're all keenly aware of the dark themes hiding in the background.

You'll only find Ravagers during raids or patrols, so you don't have to worry about unexpectedly encountering one. You're more likely to hear them before you ever see them. Their sheer size and damage make them substantial threats, so never let your guard down when fending them off.

7 Wither Skeletons

Minecraft Wither Skeletons are 2.4 Blocks Tall

Wither Skeletons are 2.4 blocks tall. Even though they look like palette-swapped Skeletons, they're larger and lack bows. Let's be honest, who would want to face a buffed-up Wither Skeleton that can attack as fast as a Skeleton? Add in the Wither effect, and you've made Wither Skull farming even more tedious.

You can only find Wither Skeletons in Nether Fortresses. The only real point in slaying them is to collect Wither Skulls. With those skulls, you can fight The Wither. However, with a 2.5 percent drop rate, you should really consider if building a beacon pyramid is something worth your time.

6 Iron Golems

Minecraft Iron Golem is 2

Even though Iron Golems aren't passive mobs, their neutrality is much appreciated when nearly all of the tallest mobs are hostile. Standing at 2.7 blocks tall, the ordinarily gentle giants make many Minecraft mobs appear insignificantly small by comparison. You'll usually find Iron Golems at villages protecting the population from Illagers and Zombies.

Don't forget that you can also build your own Iron Golem army. You'll need to look into building an iron farm or dedicate dozens of hours mining away. Remember to not accidentally hit any villagers when renovating. Otherwise, your relationship with the Golems will be long gone.

5 Wardens

A Minecraft warden stumbling past some trees

Wardens are a mob pulled straight from Dungeons and Dragons and the SCP Foundation. These blind, monstrous creatures are 2.9 blocks tall. Wardens spawn if you're unfortunate enough to activate the sculk shriekers four times. Even though they can't see you, they can detect your movement, so be careful.

Be careful exploring Ancient Cities and Deep Dark biomes. Many pitfalls, traps, and mobs lurk in the dark. While the biomes may look like The Upside Down, Terarria's Crimson and Corruption are the inspiration behind the Deep Dark. Slaying mobs or dying in the Deep Dark causes sculk blocks to proliferate.

4 Endermen

Minecraft Endermen are 2.9 Blocks Tall

Endermen are already tall but vary slightly in height under two conditions. When unbothered, Endermen are 2.9 blocks tall. When you agitate them, they become 3.2 blocks tall. You can use that knowledge to your advantage when trying to escape an Endermen you happened to annoy.

Despite being native to The End, Endermen can be found in all known dimensions, and it's a fact that doesn't get talked about enough. Whether it be their aversion to eye contact or predisposition to taking blocks that don't belong to them, Endermen are a fascinating mob that are more than meets the eye.

3 The Wither

Minecraft Wither is 3

The Wither floats in at 3.5 blocks tall. The Wither may not be the largest mob in Minecraft, but it is undoubtedly one of the most deadly. You'll need to prepare for your fight with The Wither. It's not a simple hostile mob. It's a boss fight that you intentionally go out of the way to activate.

A good tip for The Wither fight is to keep it away from your farms, villagers, and painstakingly built houses. If not, you'll never recover from it. It's hard to believe that three blocks of soulsand and three wither skulls can unleash apocalyptic damage.

2 Ghasts

Minecraft Ghast is 4 Blocks Tall

Discounting their tentacles, Ghasts are over four blocks tall, making them the second-tallest mob in the game. Everyone's favorite ghost blobs are a terrifying experience when you first enter the Nether. All you hear are strange mewls before an explosion knocks you off into a lava pit.

Fun fact, all Ghast noises are from C418, Minecraft's composer, recording their cat sleeping. If it helps make Ghasts less frustrating, imagine them like giant cats. They're perfectly content if you leave them alone. However, when they see you and they're in a bad mood, they're going to give you a rude awakening.

1 The Ender Dragon

Minecraft Ender Dragon is 8 Blocks Tall

To no one's surprise, the Ender Dragon is still the largest mob in the game. At over eight blocks tall, the Ender Dragon's size enshrines its position as the game's final boss. But it's not the most challenging fight anymore. As speedrunners have shown, slaying the dragon is much easier than you would think. Who would have imagined that a few beds would trivialize Minecraft's final boss?

As Minecraft updates more and more, maybe one day, the Ender Dragon will no longer be the biggest. Until then, Jean the Ender Dragon will reign supreme as the tallest mob in Minecraft.
