Parrots are beautiful and fascinating creatures in real life and, in Minecraft, they're just as great to own. There are five different parrot colors in the game and they're all based on real-life parrot breeds - the in-game colors are red, blue, green, cyan, and gray.

In Minecraft, parrots are particularly useful creatures. They will copy the sound of certain nearby mobs up to 20 blocks away - although, sometimes they will do this completely at random. This works as a great warning sign if you're too distracted going about your chores to notice a monster that might be approaching and is more than enough reason to make a parrot your pet.

Updated June 3, 2023, by Sean Murray: It's hard to be a pirate in Minecraft outside a few pirate-themed servers. But if the game ever does get another ocean-themed update, you'll definitely want a parrot on your shoulder, so we've refreshed this guide with better formatting and a few breakouts for ease of reference.

How To Tame Parrots In Minecraft

tamed parrot minecraft

To tame a parrot you can feed it any one of these four seeds: beetroot seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, or wheat seeds.

But first, you'll have to actually find some parrots. They are rare creatures and won't spawn too often. However, when they do spawn it'll always be in the jungle biome. They will always spawn on logs, leaves, or grass blocks at Y-level 70 or above.

If you're having trouble finding one consider turning on screen coordinates.

There's only a 33 percent chance that the parrot will successfully be tamed by the player, so keep feeding seeds until hearts appear around the bird. Once tamed, it'll even be possible to make it sit on your shoulder by simply walking past it (as long as it's not sitting down).

When they were first added to the game, parrots were attracted to cookies and could only be tamed by being fed a cookie by the player. However, Mojang later found out that chocolate is toxic to birds, so this was quickly changed.

Now if you feed a parrot a cookie in Minecraft it will die because of the chocolate chips on it.

How To Breed Parrots In Minecraft

Unfortunately, it is not possible to breed parrots in Minecraft. They only have an adult form and feeding two parrots near each other will have no effect. The only way to generate a new parrot is with a Parrot Spawn Egg, only available in Creative Mode.

Although Minecraft has been out for years now, updates are still coming out pretty regularly. Perhaps, in the near (or a distant) future, a Minecraft update will be released and allow players to breed their parrots and even make it, so you can create new fun colors by breeding different parrots with each other.
