Minecraft's new and eclectic update, made up of archaeology, cherry blossoms, armour trims, and the new Sniffer mob, finally has a name - Trails & Tales. And given how random the update is, the name has people scratching their heads.

Among the aforementioned collection of unconnected additions, there are also customisable signs, bamboo crafting, bookshelves, and grumpy camels, none of which really screams Trails & Tales (unless you loosely count a camel's tail, but that's a different spelling).

As reported by GamesRadar, the name has divided the community. Some are confused why it was shrouded in mystery, some think it's "alright" given how scattered the update is, and others are dubbing it "The Random Stuff update" or "random shit" update.

"The name makes me think cowboys (now I want guns for some reason)", one person replied. "Why can't the update titles just be as simple as 'the combat update'" another asked. "I mean, the name doesn't really fit, if only because they made the actual update first for once," one user responded. And one commenter suggested simply that it would sound better if the words were swapped around - come to think of it, they're right.

Minecraft used to throw out random numbers for updates, like Beta 1.1 or full release 1.0-whatever-number, but in the past few years, it has given each update a name to set them apart. There's the Aquatic Update, the Texture Update, Village & Pillage, Buzzy Bees, Ender, and more. The theme for this one, according to Mojang, is "self-expression through representation, storytelling, and world-building. It's the journey - your trails - that ties it all together."

Clearly, even Mojang was trying to find a way to justify the name - the others were what they said on the tin rather than having deep meanings and metaphorical undertones. Ender? It's about the End. Buzzy Bees? Hazard a guess. But it's a free update for a 14-year-old game, so it's not the end of the world.
