Speedrunning is generally not the first thought that comes to mind when starting a new game, but Minit somewhat encourages it. You play as a nameless duck-like creature who comes to possess a powerful sword. The problem is that the sword is cursed to reset the creature’s actions after one minute.
This discovery sets off a quest to get rid of the sword and remove the curse so that life can go back to normal. However, the creature’s world is full of different places to explore and it’s impossible to see it all in such a short amount of time. Luckily, there are items to help you accomplish this.
8 Mega Sword
The Sword is the most important item in the game. It’s the source of all your problems while ironically being the solution to them. It’s your only means of defense against the enemies you’ll encounter. It can also be used to destroy certain objects, such as plants.
Despite all its power, it’s still quite limited. You can fix this by upgrading it to the Mega Sword. This can only be done in the Factory after you’ve been separated from the Sword. Once you find it again, just pour water on it and watch it transform.
7 Watering Can
While this gardening tool may look mundane, it’s one of the more important items of the game. Its main drawback is that it replaces the Sword when being used. The Watering Can is used in a variety of ways — it’s a necessity to solving many of the puzzles you’ll encounter on your journey.
While it can’t be used to fight enemies, it can be used to put out fires blocking your way or on plants to help them grow. It’s also necessary for turning the Sword into the more powerful Mega Sword.
6 Coffee
This tasty beverage isn’t just meant to perk you up. When the Minit creature gets their hands on it, drinking the Coffee imbues them with tremendous energy. Specifically, it gives them the strength to move boxes around. As you get further through the game, you’ll find more and more boxes scattered around and in the way.
Instead of wasting time trying to find ways to get around them, you can now just push them out of the way. It also comes into play during some puzzles. You can get it from the Barista after killing five Crabs.
5 Flippers
Just like how they helped Link swim in The Legend Of Zelda, Flippers also help the Minit hero swim through water. You'll learn early on that the area you’re in is along the coast, and so you’ll run into the sea every now and then. There are also a few rivers cutting through the land as well.
While water acts as an obstacle, putting on the Flippers will allow you to swim through them safely. It’s a great item for exploring the surrounding areas, and you can get on top of the Hotel after you find all of the guests.
4 Sword Thrower
The Sword is a decent weapon that allows you to take out enemies in front of you, but it has a limited range. Thankfully, there’s a way you can extend it and become an even greater warrior. By picking up the Sword Thrower, you can attack from a distance.
It lets you charge up your attack and throw the Sword in front of you like a boomerang. You can’t move while charging, so keep your wits about you. In order to get this item, you’ll need to cross the Endless Desert and slay the Oasis Ghost.
3 Fast Shoes
Minit is all about speed — specifically how much you can get done in one minute. As such, a big part of the game is looking for time savers and collecting items that make getting around easier. The Fast Shoes are a necessity if you want to get around quickly and complete your mission.
These shoes allow you to build up speed from walking to running. They can be bought from a shop east of the Desert Campsite for 7 coins. It’s definitely worth the investment in the long run.
2 Gardening Glove
In addition to the Watering Can, there’s a passive gardening tool that gives you greater strength. Even though your normal sword swing is strong enough to dispatch enemies and cut through bushes, trees remain defiant — that is, until you get your hands on the Gardening Glove. By wearing this, you’ll become strong enough to cut down trees.
This will allow you to create new shortcuts and even reveal some secrets. You can get the glove by helping a character called the Lost Person by pouring water on them. After you meet them later, they’ll tell you where to find the item.
1 Basement Key
Aside from finding items that help you deal with obstacles, finding and making shortcuts is another way to save time in Minit. One of the fastest options is the Fast Travel points, which can also act as spawn points for when the minute runs out.
You’ll find these spots in different areas around the map, but some of them will have locked doors. In order to open them, find the Basement Key. You’ll need the Gardening Glove to cut down the tree near the Hut across the sea. Once you do, you’ll be able to get around the island in an instant.
