While it's perfectly fine to hit buttons and watch players run around the diamond in MLB The Show 22, if you really want to level up your game it's important to understand how the software interprets each ballplayer's abilities. You can see each player's Attributes on their Player Card, which will give you an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

Generally, a rating of 70 or higher in a given Attribute is very good, while 80 or higher is excellent. With this handy guide, you'll be able to tell what each Attribute governs and how it can affect your players on the field.

Break

  • Determines the pitcher's ability to make the ball "break," or shift direction just before crossing the plate.

Each pitch in a pitcher's repertoire has its own set of stats that work in conjunction with the pitcher's Attributes to determine the success of the throw. Be sure to vary your pitches and put in off-the-field training to keep all your pitch types sharp!

Clutch

  • Grants bonuses to the batter when teammates are in scoring position.
  • Players with a high Clutch will have an easier time making RBIs.
  • Cleanup Hitters

BUNT

Bunting

  • Makes it easier for the batter to bunt without sending the ball foul.
  • Batters Late In The Lineup

DBUNT

Drag Bunting

  • The ability of the batter's bunts to send the ball toward third, potentially making it easier for the batter to get on base.
  • Left-handed batters with high SPD

DUR

Durability

  • Decreases the likelihood of the player suffering an injury, either while running or after being hit by a pitch.
  • All Players

Since batters have separate Attributes for left- and right-handed batting, it can be worthwhile to vary the sides your switch hitters use in order to keep both arms worked out.
