As more and more videos games get released, technological advances allow developers to implement better graphics, additional gameplay features/mechanics, and a lot of extra stuff that video games from past generations never managed to accomplish. However, older video games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye 007, and Mega Man X hold a special place in many gamers' hearts for one simple reason — nostalgia.

When combined with the ability to inject mods into older games, those games become something special and unique in a sense that they can create a whole new game while staying close to the original. One such modded game is Super Mario 64 Land created by Kaze Emanuar.

Super Mario 64 Land is based on the original Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 console, but adds new levels, areas, bosses, additional powerups, and much more. It's almost like players are experiencing a brand new Mario adventure, yet at the same time, playing a classic that nearly every Mario fan knows about.

As fun as Super Mario 64 Land may sound, there is a catch — it is not a full game, but rather a mod for Super Mario 64. Simply put, in order to play the mod, a player would need to possess a ROM file for Super Mario 64 as well as have a Nintendo 64 emulator on their computer. Then, the ROM file would need to be patched in order to run the mod.

Unfortunately, there is also the risk that Nintendo can shut down Super Mario 64 Land. The company has a history of going after fan-made projects like Pokémon Uranium and Pixelmon as well as websites illegally distributing Nintendo game ROMs. In other words, it's a good idea to try out Super Mario 64 Land before Nintendo and/or its lawyers send the project a DMCA notice (hopefully not).

Super Mario 64 Land isn't the only project Kaze Emanuar has been working on. His other works include creating a VR mod for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as well as a mod that throws Super Mario 64 characters into The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's world.
