Call of Duty: Modern Warfare happened to release with both great critical and financial success and happened to bring back tons of lapsed players. The franchise has grown and evolved over the years and many players who loved the old Modern Warfare series left the franchise as they became frustrated or disinterested with Call of Duty's direction. Those lapsed fans are back and yearning for a nostalgia trip via older maps in the series hopefully returning. Let's look at 10 maps fans want to see as DLC in 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

10 Derail

Derail is a snow-covered map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that would make a perfect addition to the current set of maps. Not only will it give players the first map in the game that's heavily covered in tons of snow, but as a larger map, it lends itself to gameplay variety. People who love sniping would have another map to stretch, spread their legs, and ease into the match. It's also an interesting map layout-wise when it comes to high stakes game modes like Search & Destroy.

9 Backlot

Outside of being one of the original maps from Call of Duty 4, Backlot was notorious for having ways to get outside of the map. Friends would spend hours teaching each other how to get outside of it and explore. The best thing about Backlot is that it is a versatile map that's good for almost all game modes. It's size and layout make it feel both large and confined which gives plenty of room for experimentation in both team deathmatch and single-life modes. How you play and adapt can dictate your overall success.

8 Ambush

As a medium-range map, Ambush was always hit or miss with players. Some loved the structure of the map as it was split down the middle by broken down convoys of vehicles, while others despised the tricky elevated areas that provided a tactical advantage. Activision and Infinity Ward should be looking to add maps that offer unique gameplay experiences and Ambush is just that. Considering it's decisive among the community there's little hope that it ever makes the cut.

7 Downpour

Active weather isn't something that's a part of the current set of maps and is something that could refresh the multiplayer playlist. When it comes to maps with weather effects there are very few as classic and ideal as Downpour. The map was home to plenty of heart-clenching Search & Destroy matches in the mid-to-late 2000s, which was made cinematic by the pouring rain. The low visibility changes the dynamics of engagement and combat which can be quite fun and interesting.

6 Overgrown

Overgrown is a map that has appeared in almost every Modern Warfare entry, as well as Call of Duty Online.

This large map feels like two different maps at times based on what game mode you're playing and how many living players are left in a round or match. When it comes to larger-scale multiplayer this is another ample landscape for snipers, but at the same time, the map's structure lends itself to tense and meaningful encounters in more serious game modes.

5 Terminal

Like Overgrown, Terminal has been used in multiple Call of Duty titles as a solid additional map via DLC or pre-order bonuses. The location itself also happens to be home to one of the most controversial campaign missions in the entire franchise titled No Russian. The map itself offers opportunities for quick and kinetic gameplay that sees players moving with purpose and speed. Considering it's been brought back so much, it may be time to give other loved locations a chance.

4 Bloc

When it comes to changing the way players attack a map and their opponents there may not be a map better suited to accomplish such a task as much as Bloc. The abandoned Russian apartment complex is odd considering that despite it having an open center for combat, most of the action tasks place in the buildings and back alleys of the complex. It also happens to be a map that can provide a lot of success for both snipers and those who like a more fast-paced run and run approach.

3 Shipment

Luckily for fans, the last 3 maps we'll be talking about were all recently announced as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Season One of post-game downloadable content coming free to all platforms on the same day. Shipment is the smallest map in the history of Call of Duty and is considering one of the most beloved free-for-all maps in the franchise.

It's really small with little coverage or areas to camp. Players love the map because it's all about the action with no bathroom breaks.

2 Vacant

Vacant happens to be another one of the maps that will be coming with the Season One content drop and the marketing image seems to be teasing an upgrade to the map. It falls in that weird place where it's rarely the first map mentioned when someone's asked what their favorite maps of the series are, but once it's brought up people will talk about how much they enjoyed playing on it. Some slight tweaking to the map and a modern face-lift could help it fall back into the forefront of people's minds.

1 Crash

When Infinity Ward is working on a new title, they're probably asked the most about whether or not Crash will be a map in their game. With the newest entry in the Modern Warfare series, they knew what was coming so it made its way into the Season One free content drop alongside Vacant and Shipment. There's nothing particularly special about the map, but its versatility and nostalgiac connections make it one of the most requested DLC maps every year it feels like.
