The first content season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare begins on December 3, and it’s rumored to include the most substantial content drop in franchise history. The release includes new maps, game modes, skins, and weapons—all of which will be completely free to players.

Fans of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be pleased to see that the update features the return of some classic maps, including 6v6 maps Crash, Vacant, and Shipment. Additionally, a new Ground War map and a multiple new 2v2 Gunfight maps will be added to the game.

New MP game modes are also going to be part of season one. Familiar formats like Reinforce and Infected will stand alongside Gunfight OSP, which — as detailed by CharlieIntel.com — is a “tactically rich 2v2 mode with a twist: begin with your fists and gather weapons as the match progresses.” At least five new Special Ops modes will see screen time as well.

The current weapon arsenal will also benefit from the drop. The Ram-7 and the Holger-26 will join the repertoire.

Fans are, understandably, excited about the news. A free content drop of any stature is always welcomed with open arms, but this is a game-changer. Modern Warfare is already breaking records during its first month online, and a move like this certainly won’t hinder the game’s success.

While Infinity Ward does boast the new season as the “biggest free content drop in franchise history,” it’s important to note that not all of the content will be available directly at the start of season one. Instead, the content will see a metered release over the course of the season. Regardless of when and how it arrives, a free content drop of this size will be well received.
