Say what you will about Capcom, but they certainly know how to appreciate their players when they want to. Free gigantic drumstick weapons for everyone!

Monster Hunter is, for the most part, quite a hardcore series. Until the success of Monster Hunter Tri for the Nintendo Wii, it was a very niche series here in the west, mostly the domain of PSP players who had learned to contort their hands into super awkward claw positions so as to be able to control both character and camera simultaneously.

Luckily, both analog sticks and the Monster Hunter franchise itself has come a long way since then. Monster Hunter World and the recent Iceborne expansion has both introduced new fans to the franchise and appeased older ones, with the return of all manner of fan-favorite monsters (such as the quick, elegant and panther-like Nargacuga).

If you’re already familiar with the series’ ability to blend the hardcore (no-armor speedruns) with the hilarious and/or ridiculous (silly weapons and equipment), the incredible new Meat Hammer weapon will come as no surprise to you. If you’re new around here, well… look at it. It’s a gigantic drumstick you’ve just got to appreciate.

How do you get your carnivorous, meat-slavering hands on this magnificent weapon? Well, as with a lot of Capcom’s sillier ideas for equipment, it’s available as part of a special event. Monster Hunter World’s second anniversary is coming up, and what better way to celebrate that with a lavish event? Appreciate Fest begins in-game on January 23, and you know how they celebrate things in the Monster Hunter world: with a whole hecking lot of food.

As Polygon reports, only owners of the Iceborne expansion need apply. This hammer requires parts from the “Beef Is Never A Mi-Steak” quest, a super tough Master Rank 4 mission which isn’t accessible at all in the base game. Once the event begins, the quest will be available only until February 13, so hammer users for a hankering for huge steaks (which is all hammer users, let’s be honest with ourselves) will want to get in on that ASAP.

Capcom have opened up an official site for Monster Hunter World/Iceborne’s Appreciation Fest, which is scheduled to be updated with a lot more details as the event approaches. Watch this space!
