The fans of the Nintendo Monster Hunter titles will be given the chance to go on the hunt once more, as Monster Hunter XX is finally being localized and released in the West, under the new name of Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations.

The announcement was made on the official Monster Hunter Twitter page earlier today that the highly anticipated game will be coming to Nintendo Switch on August 28th.

Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations is an updated port of Monster Hunter Generations for the Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo Switch version of the game has updated graphics for the new system, but the game also comes with a lot of new content in the form of new monsters, new weapons, the addition of G-Rank difficulty, new areas, new prowler abilities, and new hunting styles.

One of the biggest additions to Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations is the ability to change the appearance of armor so that it looks like a different piece, while still retaining the abilities of the original. This means that you can now choose armor based on aesthetics rather than powers. You can avoid the problem with high-ranking Monster Hunter games were you see the same sets of armor being used over and over again. This also means that you can wear the awesome Nintendo and Capcom themed sets without sucking in battle.

The announcement of this game is less surprising than it might have been, considering Capcom's recent fiscal year financial report, in which they listed Monster Hunter World and Ultra Street Fighter II (a title that was exclusive for the Nintendo Switch) as two of their biggest selling titles of the past year.

The fact that Capcom has had a Monster Hunter game for the Nintendo Switch sitting on a shelf for so long has baffled many fans of the series, as the Switch sold a lot of systems during its first year and fans were desperate for games to play on the system, with even shovelware titles like 1-2-Switch selling millions of copies.

Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations was also almost totally localized already, thanks to the English release of Monster Hunter Generations, so it wouldn't have taken as much work as normal to release it in the West.

The success of Monster Hunter World led many fans to believe that we would never see an English release of Monster Hunter XX, as Capcom has stated that Monster Hunter World represented a new direction for the series. The fact that Monster Hunter World is their highest-selling game of all time meant that this change of direction has paid off.

The issue with Monster Hunter World is that it can only be played at home. The previous Monster Hunter titles generally appeared on handheld systems, with a social element being one of the most important parts of the game. The PSP Monster Hunter titles became a national phenomenon in Japan for this reason.

It seems that Capcom hasn't fully abandoned the local play elements of the previous entries in the series, and with the Nintendo Switch being so popular, we may see Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations attract a new audience in the same way that Monster Hunter World has done.

Monster Hunter Ultimate Generations is coming to the Nintendo Switch on August 28th, which means that the hunt will be back on soon.
