Capcom has hit a new milestone with Monster Hunter Rise. During the company’s acceptance of the Grand Award for Game of the Year at the Japan Game Awards, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise has now shipped over 7.5 million units worldwide.

Each of those shipments was made solely on the Nintendo Switch, which has been the exclusive console of Monster Hunter Rise since last March. However, that will soon change as Monster Hunter Rise heads to Steam in January.

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest in a long line of Monster Hunter games. With its distinct Japanese aesthetic and new mechanics like the Wirebug and Wyvern Riding, Monster Hunter Rise acquired critical acclaim and sold over 5 million units in its first week.

But Steam has a much larger user base than the Nintendo Switch, so there's a very good chance for Monster Hunter Rise to catch up to the current Capcom champion, Monster Hunter World, which sold 15 million units as of last year alongside 4 million more Iceborne expansion sales.

Monster Hunter Rise hits Steam January 12, 2022. A pre-order bonus is available for a Palamute and Palico costume, and there's a free public demo scheduled to start on October 13.
