Monster Hunter Rise is an open-world RPG. With that in mind, it is a given that there is a wide array of activities that you can do while playing the game. Even after finishing the main campaign, you still won't run out of things to do.

Updated February 16, 2023 by Hilton Webster: Monster Hunter games never end when you roll credits, they keep you reaching for higher goals with every subsequent hunt. Rise is packed with content, and the Sunbreak expansion has only added plenty more, so you can keep going long after you've finished the campaign.

15 Keep Playing

You don't stop playing a Monster Hunter game just because the campaign is finished. In fact, a massive chunk of the game's content belongs outside the main story. In Monster Hunter Rise, this remains the same. Once the main story has ended, don't put down the game yet. There's more to explore. So much more.

Go back into the world and hunt more monsters, pick up more collectables, and explore the entire map. The game isn't over yet.

14 Hunt for Large Crown Monsters

In the frenzy of a hunt, it can be hard to pick out some of the more minute details of a monster. The way Mizutsune flutters about, how Khezu cups its tail for suction, and so on. The little things. Have you ever noticed though that the same monster sometimes comes in different sizes?

In Rise, monsters have both a maximum and minimum size they can reach, awarded with a crown in the Notebook respectively. Some quests give you guaranteed chances for a Crown Monster, but otherwise, it's up to you to just keep hunting and hope for that big or little guy to appear.

13 Raise Your Anomaly Research Level

Added in the Sunbreak expansion is the Qurio, a kind of parasitic lifeform that fuses with its host. For most monsters, they sap away their health, while with others they form a symbiotic relationship. After finishing the story of Sunbreak, you are given special hunts to slay these afflicted monsters.

This feature was expanded further in an update, adding a dedicated currency and random hunts, getting harder but more rewarding as you increase your level. The rewards are great, playing into the Qurious Crafting system, as well as giving a currency that lets you buy super-rare monster parts as your level gets higher.

12 Experiment with Qurious Crafting

augmenting weapons through qurious crafting

Added with the first title update to Sunbreak, Qurious Crafting is, well, a rather 'curious' system. Rather than the standard upgrade system of boosting stats in a regular manner, it gives you full control over it, making any weapon even more unique to you.

For example, weapons can be given anomaly slots, and you can then fit attack or sharpness upgrades. Armour pieces meanwhile are given random upgrades, possibly even adding new skills and decoration slots. It's a great system to play around with to give you a chance at a godly build.

11 Reach HR 100

Even though you can jump into Sunbreak after beating Narwa, it doesn't mean there aren't plenty of things left in the base game to do. Keep upgrading your HR, and eventually, you'll start unlocking more Urgent Quests. These will lead to a confrontation with a Crimson Glow Valstrax.

Victory against this heinous beast will unlock even more quests, including some against Apex versions of monsters you've come to know and love. These are incredibly difficult quests but don't let that put you off - there are more goodies to be had as a result.

10 Collect Relics

There are a handful of relics you can collect in Monster Hunter Rise. The number of relics you can find in this game is so numerous that you will spend hours and hours collecting them all. A few of them are in places that are difficult to reach too.

There are 10 different Relic Records in each area of the game, including the new locals added in Sunbreak. For each one you collect, you will receive 1000 points. On top of that, you will receive a carving to display in your room for every five Relic Records you collect.

9 Speedrun The Arena

Once you've mastered a weapon or two, you can test your technical skills in the arena by talking to Utsushi in the Gathering Hub. Here, you'll be able to undergo timed trials against monsters you've fought previously on a level playing field with set weapons and equipment.

Aim for the lowest times and train your skills against these monsters. Not only will you gain rewards from these quests if you do well, but you'll get bragging rights if you manage to attain an S Rank.

8 Look Out For Endemic Life

Endemic Life are creatures you encounter in the world. These creatures are natives of their location, meaning you will be able to encounter a ton of unique ones while exploring the game's world.

The Endemic Life creatures aren't hostile either. You must watch out for these, especially before fighting monsters, as they can provide buffs, offensive items, among other valuables. There are even unique kinds of Endemic Life such as Hunting Helpers and Ensnaring Life that do more than provide buffs.

7 Play Online

Monster Hunter games are best played online. Even though the games in the series don't downplay their story and campaign, this series' core system is multiplayer gameplay. A lot of the monsters in this game are better battled with friends or strangers online. Besides, it will make the experience of playing this game so much more enjoyable.

If you have friends who are also playing this game, coordinate and play with them. If not, it's always an incredible thing to find strangers who share your passion for the game you're playing.

6 Collect Kamura and Elgado Tickets

These tickets are items you can collect and trade for great armour sets. These tickets can be earned by completing the errands and tasks given by completing hunts from the respective hub.. The tasks will involve you completing a bunch of side quests, buddy scouting, and more.

5 Explore New Weapons

One of the most awesome things about RPG titles is the liberty of choice. Every player will always have their playstyle preference, and games like Monster Hunter Rise knows this. Whether you prefer fast-paced action or slow-winding, heavy-hitting weapons, there's bound to be one for you in this game.

With that in mind, after completing the main campaign, you should take the time to explore the other weapons in the game. Perhaps you can even try to check out the weapons you wouldn't normally use because they're outside of your preference.

4 Find Armor Sets And Pieces

There are two philosophies for suiting up in Monster Hunter Rise - the first option is collecting armour sets. This is a very safe and effective method of gearing up. You are usually given extra buffs by completing an armour set, which are always helpful when hunting.

The other option is to mix and match to stack effects. In this game, you can stack status effects up to three times. If there's a status effect you really prefer, you can make it more potent by searching for other armour pieces that have the same effect.

3 Hunt Down Secrets And Easter Eggs

Monster Hunter Rise is one of the most ambitious Nintendo Switch titles. This title has a very massive world into which you can pour hours and hours. Being an open-world game, one of the main mechanics of this title is exploration, and that's exactly what you'll be doing half the time.

In a game as big as this, it's only expected that there are a ton of secrets and Easter eggs just waiting to be discovered. As of this point, only a handful have still been discovered since the game just got released. If you've already completed the main story, take the time and find as many secrets and Easter eggs as you can.

2 Play The Sunbreak Expansion

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Malzeno

What Capcom loves touting as a 'massive expansion', Sunbreak truly does live up to the descriptor. It adds a massive amount of new monsters to the game, as well as new maps to hunt in, variations on existing mechanics, and whole new methods of gameplay on top.

For many, Sunbreak may fundamentally change how you view the game. Your playstyle is given a dramatic amount more freedom, the endgame feels like a dedicated system, and the new areas breathe some new life into jaded locales.

If you're a newcomer to this series and you played Monster Hunters Rise first, you should finally check out the previous title in this series. If you love Monster Hunter Rise, you will also undoubtedly fall in love with Monster Hunter World.

You can play Monster Hunter World on consoles and PC. It's more or less the same principle, but with Monster Hunter Rise being the newer game, there are mechanics in the latest game that aren't in the previous one. Be that as it may, it is still an incredibly gorgeous game, and you should take the time to explore it after finishing Monster Hunter Rise.

Alternatively, you can play Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, a port of the final 3DS game that made its way to the Switch. It has the most monsters that have ever been in a game and a mechanic that allows you to customize your playstyle more than even Rise does.
