As a result, there are a good number of games that are perfect for people craving a Monster Hunter-style fix. With titles of various genres having similarly styled gameplay mechanics to the genre classic, here are some titles that are worth checking out when someone needs a break from Monster Hunter: Rise.

10 Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World Fighting in the Desert

Naturally, as another Monster Hunter game, World has a lot in common with Rise. However, the best-selling Monster Hunter title offers a lot of new and interesting innovations never before seen in the series, with a substantial world to explore on top of the fantastic Iceborne expansion.

World opened the series up to newcomers, whilst at the same time ensuring long-time fans of the series had plenty to get their teeth into. The online multiplayer is brilliant too, allowing up to four hunters to team up and explore World's bountiful environments at any time.

9 Dauntless

Dauntless Large Flying Monster

Dauntless is a free-to-play RPG that isn't afraid to show the influence it has taken from the Monster Hunter series. Players team up with up to three others in order to take on giant Behemoths across the game's world. The combat is a highlight, with encounters being challenging but fair, especially with the fast and smooth fighting style Dauntless offers.

For a free-to-play game, it offers a surprising level of content, all accessible without spending a penny. It has 35 different behemoth bosses and continues to provide new content through seasonal updates.

8 Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games on the PlayStation 4, selling over 10 million copies since launching in 2017. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic setting, Horizon's world is full of ancient technology and machines that roam around it.

Aloy is a fantastic lead too, interacting excellently with the world around her and the characters met along the way. The combat is brilliant, with a range of ways to take on each encounter allowing things to constantly remain fresh.

7 Monster Hunter Generations

Generations is a 'classic' Monster Hunter game, using the standard gameplay the series was renowned for before Monster Hunter: World released. With just under 100 different monsters to fight, as well as the option to play online with friends in these epic battles, Generations is a perfect game to sink 100s of hours into.

Its combat is satisfying as ever, with each fight being a balance between dealing damage, avoiding attacks, and targeting enemy weak spots. It isn't as player-friendly as newer entries, but it offers a fantastic version of Monster Hunter and everything fans love about it.

Dragon's Dogma also has a unique AI system that grants the player three buddies who travel with them, allowing them to give orders and help complete tasks. It has some JRPG elements too, making it an amalgamation of both Western and Japanese gameplay styles.

5 Remnant: From The Ashes

Remnant From The Ashes

Remnant: From the Ashes offers the same brilliant co-op experience available in Monster Hunter, with a 4-player option for the entirety of the game. It takes place in a world that has been taken over by a strange evil entity known as "the Root". The third-person shooter gameplay is a refreshing take on the genre, with a wide range of customization options on offer too.

It's a punishing game, with comparisons to the crushing Dark Souls difficulty level being rife, but the combat is rewarding and does a lot to prevent Remnant from becoming unfair. It's fast and frantic and will continue to surprise players the whole way through.

4 Attack On Titan 2

Attack on Titan 2 is a great example of how sometimes a licensed game can still be a really good experience. This game covers the first two series of the anime, with the additional DLC covering the third, making it a perfect option for fans of the series.

3 Toukiden 2

Toukiden 2

Omega Force is more well known for the Warriors series, but Toukiden 2 is one of their best games and is fairly unknown. It offers the same boss battling gameplay seen in Monster Hunter, and it is just as satisfying. It offers an open-world full of places to explore, and monsters to fight with.

Most unique to Toukiden 2 though is its Japanese setting, with many of its creatures being centered on Japanese mythology. The story is intriguing too and is interesting enough to keep players engaged right till the end.

2 God Eater 3

God Eater 3 is a blend of RPG elements and hack n' slash gameplay, with players being tasked with taking down giant creatures called Aragami. A weapon known as the God Arc can transform into various different forms, giving people the ability to switch up combat at a moment's notice.

The combat is the main highlight, although God Eater 3 does offer cooperative play with up to eight players, the thrill of taking down one of the game's giant Aragami with friends is a great feeling for sure. The story isn't fantastic but it does enough to hold your attention until combat returns.

1 Shadow Of The Colossus

Shadow of the Colussus Encounter

Shadow of the Colossus is a bit of a confusing game, with little of its lore and world being explained, but it remains a beautiful title full of fantastic moments. Players must travel a strange land and defeat 16 towering beings known as Colossi. Each fight requires the players to physically climb up the beings in order to triumph over them, making for some incredible encounters.

The 2018 remastered is visually stunning, and it ensures that even though the journey is a short one, around just 7 hours, every moment of it is set in a beautiful world.
