Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak introduces the Elgado Base, a place where its residents are the survivors of a calamity that terrorized their fallen kingdom. After you arrive and start making your way through Master Rank, you get to meet the most important monsters to defeat in this region, called the Three Lords.

The second of these Three Lords is called Lunagaron, and this massive wolf-like monster presents a challenging fight for you to face. Fortunately, your experiences as a Hunter from Kamura Village will help you to overcome this combat, and here's everything you need to know about it.

Lunagaron - Strengths And Weaknesses

Lunagaron_001

Lunagaron's weak points are pretty much approachable from any position, so they don't matter that much in the fight, but if you can allow yourself to choose, go straight for the head or front legs since Bludgeoning weapons will hit more, and we all love a good hammer stun in a fight.

For the elements or ailments of choice against this foe, it will be particularly prone to Fire and Blast Damage first and foremost, and then Sleep will be useful, but in a minor intensity. Keep in mind that Lunagaron hits mostly with Ice Damage, so you want to keep an eye on your resistances against that element.

  • Weak Points - Head, Fore Legs, Hind Legs
  • Resistant Points - Torso, Back,
  • Elemental/Ailment Weakness - Blast, Fire
  • Elemental/Ailment Resistance - Paralysis, Poison
  • Best Weapon Damage - Bludgeoning Damage

Best Equipment To Fight Lunagaron

Lunagaron_003

To fight this enemy is highly recommended to bring a Bludgeoning weapon like the Hammer, for an extra bit of damage. Given Lunagaron's Elemental weaknesses, you will want to inflict Blast or Fire Damage, so either the Higher Pronged Hammer from the Orangaten weapon tree, Sinister Shade Hammer+ from Magnamalo, or Phoenix Fury+ from the Anjanath tree should do a great job if you're currently progressing through the story. For later stages in the game, you will also want to check the Teostra Cratergouger (Teostra), Magma Masher (Magma Almudron), or Rosenhammer (Espinas).

On the armor side, given this monster's proclivity for employing Ice Damage in its attacks you will want to be covered against that for sure. In this case, your best choices are the Barioth or Aurora Somnacanth armor sets against Ice Damage, or just go for a bulky ensemble like the Basarios X.

  • Weapons - Higher Pronged Hammer, Sinister Shade Hammer+, Phoenix Fury+
  • Armor - Barioth X, Auroracanth, Basarios X

Lunagaron - Fight Breakdown And Moves

Lunagaron_002

Lunagaron's fight is, thankfully, pretty straightforward. In wolf form, it will move on its four legs and will do swift attacks like tail swipes, the odd shoulder tackle, and a small AoE attack where it ejects Iceblight from its body. Its strongest attack in this form is a jump that will also trigger an AoE Iceblight attack, after which Lunagaron will coat itself in Ice, and stand up on two legs.

This new werewolf form will have a new set of moves, it will jump way more often, and now its melee attacks will inflict Iceblight. It will commonly do short sprints where it charges at you and hits you with an Icy claw attack, the tail swipes now aim vertically, and also will do a small low kick. There's also the odd attack where it will use a claw attack that shoots some Iceblight damage onwards, and a series of chained claw attacks. After a while in this form, it will roar and coat itself once again in ice, gaining a snowy, crystalline armor.

In this final form, Lunagaron's Claws will be way longer, and it will use them more often in several ways. On top of the previous set of moves, the lunging claw attacks are now charged, will hit harder and deal Iceblight, and its strongest attack is now a quick jump that deals a cascade of Iceblight damage in a cone AoE. Once you keep doing enough damage, it will revert to its base form and the cycle will begin again until you successfully defeat it.
