Monster Hunter Rise is yet another hit for Capcom. The sixth entry in the mainline Monster Hunter games sold five million units in less than two weeks on the Nintendo Switch, and after releasing on PC via Steam earlier this year, those sales ballooned to over 11 million by August. It seems a no-brainer that Capcom would eventually bring Monster Hunter Rise to the other two big consoles, and now it looks like that’s about to happen.
We just got word of the impending PlayStation and Xbox ports thanks to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who said that Monster Hunter Rise will hit PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and both PC and Xbox Game Pass on January 20, 2023. The port will include "4K60" graphics and "3D Audio" for consoles that support it (lookin’ at you, PS5). Monster Hunter Rise’s equally successful expansion, Sunbreak, is due out on the same consoles sometime in the spring.
This morning, Henderson received “more confirmation” on the impending Monster Hunter Rise announcement and said that Magnamalo will feature prominently on the game’s store pages--unsurprising as it’s already the game’s star monster.
Then this afternoon, we received our first official confirmation courtesy of what appears to be an honest mistake. Xbox’s German Twitter account posted a gif that confirmed Monster Hunter Rise would arrive on Xbox and Game Pass on January 20. That tweet has since been deleted, but Gematsu was quick on the screen-cap button for us.
Both Henderson and Gematsu suspect that an actual announcement will be coming at The Game Awards, which will air on December 8.
We might also get more news on the upcoming Monster Hunter mobile game that was confirmed earlier this month. Capcom is partnering with Tencent's Timi Studio to create an all-new Monster Hunter game for mobile, a platform for which it has extensive experience making games like PUBG Mobile, COD Mobile, and Honor of Kings. Timi is also the studio behind Pokemon Unite, Pokemon's biggest mobile spinoff after Pokemon Go.
