Deviant Monsters have become a staple in the Monster Hunter series after they debuted in Monster Hunter Generations for the Nintendo 3DS. Now with the latest spin-off in the series Monster Hunter Stories 2 launching, you have the chance in the post-game content to encounter and ride some of the most powerful monsters. But be warned, as such creatures are hard to obtain.

To unlock these monsties, you must seek their eggs deep in Super-Rare Monster Dens and defeat the very deviant monsters you aim to catch. Whilst gaining the items you need to create some of the best armor in the game after defeating such beasts, there is also a slim chance that you will snatch up one of those much-desired eggs.

These monsters are no joke. With a power that rivals the Elder Dragons, riders must be prepared to work hard to call a deviant monster their own. It must be said, that all monsties have the potential to become powerful with the right combo of genes, but these elusive creatures are in a league of their own. There are five in total to encounter which begs the question: what are the most powerful deviant monsters that you can add to your roster?

5 No. 116: Grimclaw Tigrex

Beware the ferocious bite of the Grimclaw Tigrex, a deviant monster that lies in wait in the woodland den. This flying wyvern has great attack stats, sporting a very strong non-elemental attack. Although it is one hard hitter, the deviant's defense does lack slightly, with a weakness to ice attacks.

Raw power is the essence of this deviant, but when enraged in battle be prepared for the onslaught of speed attacks it lashes out. Despite its excellent stats, other deviant monsters have slightly higher speed, crit rates, and defense. Regardless, this beastly Tigrex is worth having on your team.

4 No. 119: Thunderlord Zinogre

Sparks fly when the Thunderlord Zinogre takes center stage. Dwelling amongst the snowy mountain den, this deviant monster has great overall stats, especially its lightning attack and defense. What makes this monster great is that defense is not sacrificed for a great attack. You can say goodbye to the days of the glass cannon.

This monster also has a great critical attack rate. Pair this with the right gene like Critical Kinship, boosting your kinship meter every time you make a crit hit, would make this monstie a threat to be reckoned with. With a higher speed than other deviants and a great set of stats, Thunderlord Zinogre could be your next champion.

3 No.116: Silverwind Nargacuga

There may be monsties with higher attack and defense stats than the Silverwind Nargacuga, yet none can compete with the sheer speed that this deviant has. With one of the highest speed stats out of all monsters in the game, this potential partner is perfect for inflicting status attacks before anyone else can move in player versus player combat.

Alongside the Silverwind Nargacuga's speed, this monster does sport a high non-elemental attack and defense and a high critical attack rate. If you want to utilize this monstie, a focus on its speed and its critical hit rate is a must.

But what makes this Deviant monster excel even further is the riding action 'stealth'. Nargacuga's are the only monsters that can use this ability that allows you to sneak past wild monsters without being detected. The Silverwind Nargacuga can be found in the jungle den, so keep your eyes on the prize whilst delving deeper into those dens.

2 No.120: Dreadqueen Rathian

The Dreadqueen Rathian truly is a jack of all trades. Although it doesn't pack the odd high stat that other deviant monsters have, what makes this beast so dangerous is consistency. With high health, good speed, and both favorable attack and defense stats across the board, this monster is a threat to any player that dares challenge you.

But there is a catch, as this deviant monster does have a weakness to dragon-type attacks, so be careful when facing up to a dangerous move of this type. When it comes to creating a build for PVP, this is another deviant monster that would make for a great status attack focus. A well-placed panacea gene is a must for all monsties -- especially this one in particular.

The Dreadqueen Rathian lies in wait in the cavernous volcanic dens. So if you can handle the heat, Dreadqueen Rathian might just be the deviant monster for you.

1 No.118: Bloodbath Diablos

Monsterpedia page of the Bloodbath Diablos on Monster Hunter Stories 2

Found in the desert den, the Bloodbath Diablos does what it says on the tin. This monster will make a bloodbath out of your opponents. What makes this monster so threatening aside from the name is that its non-elemental attack stat is the joint highest attack stat for all monsters in the game.

Its sheer attacking power combined with its amazing non-elemental stats means that this monster is much easier to build the perfect PVP champion than any other elemental type.

Bloodbath Diablos also comes with a sizable amount of health, making this deviant monster an asset for any monster rider. The only catch is that this monster is weak to water. Despite this, with excellent stats, heavy-hitting attacks, and a name to make anyone quiver - Bloodbath Diablos is one of the most powerful deviant monsters out there.
