As you progress through Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, you'll notice plenty of shiny new monsters in the later tournaments that you have yet to encounter in the Shrine. That's because lots of monster types are locked and you must fulfill certain prerequisites before you can generate them for yourself.

One of the monsters that you can unlock in Monster Rancher 2 is Durahan, and getting this rather cool armored monster requires a little bit more work (and luck) than some of the others.

How To Get The Old Sheath In Monster Rancher 2

First thing's first, you need to get the Old Sheath. This rare item is found on the Parepare Jungle Expedition. To unlock this Expedition you must meet these requirements:

• Monster is Rank C or above
• Monster has 50+ Fame
• Monster has 140+ Life
• You have previously completed the first Kawrea Expedition

If you meet these requirements, Kavaro will appear in the first week of October to invite you to the Parepare Jungle. You must be on the ranch to receive this invitation, this means resting or training on the fourth week of September. If your monster is injured or doing Errantry at this time, you will miss the opportunity until the following year.

Expedition Notes:

• Your monster's "Energy" will deplete as it moves around the map, removes obstacles, or searches points of interest. If your monster hits -10 Energy Points before reaching camp, it will KO — the Expedition will be a failure and your monster's lifespan will be shortened.
• The map layout is always the same here, but once you start searching points of interest, it's random which rooms your monster will choose to go in — this is why we recommend saving beforehand. The higher your monster's INT, the better it is at finding items.

When in the Parepare Jungle, you want to target the palace behind the pumpkin.

Directions to the palace from the entrance are as follows:

• Move forward to the first fork (X:0, Y:2)
• Go right and stop at the tree stump on your left (X:7, Y:2)
• Have your monster destroy the tree (alternatively, you can go around, it appears to be the same cost)
• Once the path is open, head forwards all the way you can go (X:7, Y:11)
• Turn left and follow the path all the way around until you get to your first crossroad (X:3, Y:8)
• Continue forward two spaces (X:3, Y:5)
• Turn right and go down until a path opens on your right (X:-1, Y:5)
• Turn right and the pumpkin will be in front of you (X:-1, Y:9)
• Have your monster remove the pumpkin and continue forward to the palace

Keep sending your monster to search the palace in the hopes of getting the Old Sheath.

Unless you are extremely fortunate, this will take multiple attempts and likely multiple save reloads. You ideally want to be able to get the Old Sheath and still have enough energy to make it back to camp without your monster KO'ing. However, if you get the Old Sheath and then your monster KOs, you will still get to keep the item.

How To Unlock Durahan In Monster Rancher 2

Once you have your Old Sheath, head to the Item Shop and Auntie Verde will tell you a rumor about someone stealing some swords from the Parepare region.

The next step is to get your monster to Rank A. If you have a Rank A monster on the first week of February after obtaining the Old Sheath and speaking to Auntie Verde, you will be invited to a special invitational tournament happening on the fourth week of February. Once again, you must be on the ranch to receive this invitation and there again to take part in the tournament.

In this Invitation Match, you will be facing off against Durahan. You need to win in order to receive the Double-edged sword item.

Once you have the Double-edged sword, head into Town and go to the Lab so you can combine any two monsters using the sword as the secret seasoning item. This guarantees you a Durahan.
