Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX has just landed for Nintendo Switch, PC, and iOS and packages two classic PlayStation titles into one monster-filled bundle. The beauty of having both games in one place is that you can easily transfer your monsters from the first game to the second, though regrettably, it doesn't work the other way around.

So if you want to make sure you take your favorite monster from one game to the next, or you're having trouble finding a certain monster type in MR2, here's everything you need to know about transferring monsters from Monster Rancher to Monster Rancher 2.

How to Transfer Monsters In Monster Rancher 1&2 DX

In Monster Rancher

With whichever monster you want to transfer, head into Town and go to the Lab. You need to choose the 'Freeze' option.

Afterward, save your game and head back to the Title Screen to load up Monster Rancher 2.

Go into Town, ensure you don't have a monster with you, and head to the Shrine. Instead of choosing the 'Disc Stone' option, you want to choose 'Slate'.

You will then be prompted to pick which Monster Rancher save you wish to access, which will pull up a Reproduction list of any monsters currently frozen in the Lab in that save file.

Choose the monster and it will be generated for you.

Important Things To Note

  • If you transfer a special monster with a '???' Sub type that is not in Monster Rancher 2, it will generate as the standard monster type. For example, a Gray Wolf (Tiger/???) will appear as a normal Tiger in Monster Rancher 2.
  • The name you chose in Monster Rancher will carry over to Monster Rancher 2, but you will get a chance to rename it if you want to.
  • The monster's stats will carry over, but its age, rank, and fame will be reset.
