Just like in Pokemon where attacks are separated between physical and special, attacking skills in Monster Sanctuary are divided between the Attack and Magic stats, with each gaining more power depending on the stat associated with that attack.

In some cases, monsters that focus on Magic over Attack will also have some kind of supporting role, either through healing, buffing, or debuffing, but there are also some that focus entirely on dealing as much damage as possible and shouldn't be ignored when creating a team.

Updated July 11, 2022 by Ryan Bamsey: With the release of the Forgotten World DLC, many players are flocking back to Monster Sanctuary to try out the new content and the randomized game modes. We thought we'd update this list to make sure you're best-informed on how to build the best magic attackers.

10 Manticorb

Monster Sanctuary Manticorb

One of the easiest monsters to miss in Monster Sanctuary is Manticorb, which is only found in the top right-hand room of Mountain Path and can't be accessed without the Double Jump boots or a monster with the Improved Flying ability.

While Manticorb is more than capable of inflicting all manner of debuffs thanks to its wide variety of attacks, its main strength is in its high Critical Chance and attacks that can hit upwards of ten times in some cases, making it not only a good combo extender, but also a great damage dealer overall.

9 Raduga

Monster Sanctuary Raduga

This monster is first found as a Champion in the Ancient Woods, and can be quite the perilous foe. It's worth getting a five-star rating and acquiring its egg, however, as it makes for a great magic attacker that covers all elemental bases.

In addition, Raduga has four skills that each grant itself a different buff - Sorcery, Glory, Regeneration, and Barrier - making it a self-sustaining, elemental machine with the ability to inflict Chill to boot.

8 Vertraag

Monster Sanctuary Vertraag

Like Raduga, Vertraag is another selfish self-buffer with a ton of magic firepower behind it. With self-applying Regeneration, Barrier, and Glory buffs and the inherent ability to turn Might into Sorcery buffs, Vertraag is always going to have inflated stats.

Vertraag's great synergy with any Age mechanics also makes it a fantastic lynchpin in any strategy that uses them. Its Outlast aura will provide shields to any monsters with Age stacks, and Channeling Support buffs this even further.

7 Mad Eye

Monster Sanctuary Mad Eye

Mad Eye may be the pre-evolution of the final boss, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't grab one and take it into battle against Marduk and his master. Like Manticorb and Raduga, Mad Eye's focus is on the breadth of its attack elements.

Though it lacks raw firepower, it can inflict four different status ailments - Shock, Weakness, Armor Break, and Burn - and has passive skills such as Fatal Upkeep, Toxic Reaction, and Incinerate to boost their effects. A Dark Shifted Mad Eye will be able to stack these effects, making it even better.

6 Frosty

Monster Sanctuary Frosty

This little glowing ball of cold fire might look innocuous, but it's one that you should be very wary of if your team is weak to ice and Chill. While Frosty doesn't have the Congeal passive skill, which might have pushed it over into being incredibly overpowered, it is able to inflict the Chill debuff better than most other monsters.

Not only that, but having access to both Wind and Water attacks that can inflict this debuff gives it an edge when it comes to striking weaknesses and ensuring you can spread the status ailment efficiently.

5 Stolby

Monster Sanctuary Stolby

Although there are a handful of monsters that are inherently good at dodging attacks, none are as annoying as Stolby to battle, especially when you have to face multiple of them in the wild. Not only does it deal great damage through its attacks, but those attacks often inflict Poison stacks that can quickly increase damage output over a turn thanks to Multi Poison.

The best aspect of Stolby, however, has to be the fact that it has two Dodging passive buffs available, which is only beaten by Worm, which has three. This buff gives it an eight percent chance to dodge an attack for each one taken. Combined with support from monsters with Blind and Tether, it's very easy for Stolby to dodge every attack an opponent can throw their way.

4 Arachlich

Monster Sanctuary Arachlich

Arachlich is one of those monsters that is good at just about anything you want it to be, including being a sweeping powerhouse. Between its ability to inflict Poison, Chill, Blind, and Tether, alongside its high Magic stat and access to the Congeal ability, means that whatever Arachlich attacks is going to either suffer in the long run or be defeated outright.

Arachlich also has access to healing abilities in Encapsulate and Revive, as well as being one of the few monsters with the Phoenix Affinity ability that saves it from being defeated once per battle, making it a chore to take down.

3 Specter

Monster Sanctuary Specter

Specter shares a lot in common with Arachlich, being a dreary looking monster whose strengths aren't limited to one area in particular, though where Arachlich's strengths extend to healing and reviving allies, Specter is one of the better debuffers that also doubles as a powerful attacking force.

It has access to an extremely powerful suite of debuffing skills and the incredibly strong Spectral Cannon skill, which deals a ton of damage and even ignores a part of the target's damage reduction. Stacked with Magic-boosting equipment, few monsters can reach the raw numbers that a Specter can pump out.

2 Dracozul

Monster Sanctuary Dracozul

All three of the Draconov evolutions are great and powerful attackers with both a high Attack and Magic stat alongside some high damage skills. However, Dracozul may be the best of the three with its Multi-Sidekick ability and the Quicken skill allowing it to hit many more times with its hard-hitting attacks than it otherwise would.

Dracozul is also fantastic as an off-buffer, as both its Quicken and Dragonskin skills can allow for multiple stacks of Sidekick and Barrier to not only allow your team to hit harder but take harder hits as well.

1 Elderjel

Monster Sanctuary Elderjel

When you first fight Elderjel, your Spectral Familiar warns you to get the fight over and done with as quickly as possible otherwise it will decimate your team, which is a fair assumption to make about this Champion monster. Alongside having an incredibly annoying arsenal of attacks up its sleeve, it also comes equipped with Encapsulate, Revive, and the ability to use Age stacks.

Its ability to inflict Shock debuffs on the entire opposition also makes it a good choice for weakening the enemy monsters enough to enable a clean sweep, and it synergizes very well with Bleed-centric monsters thanks to its Blood Magic and Deep Wounds aura, almost doing the team-building for you!
