Having pets is such a lovely thing to do. You take an animal, usually a cat or a dog, maybe even a bird of some sort, and you bring them into your house, showering them with endless love and affection. But what if you wanted something a little more... exotic?

No, we're not talking about sugar gliders or fennec foxes. We're talking about monsters. You're used to killing them over and over for experience and items or capturing them and forcing them to fight - well, give peace a chance. Adopt a monster instead. I know I would, and here are the ones I'd zip to as soon as I step foot in this hypothetical monstrous pet shop.

8 Seel

Pokemon Let's Go Seel

We've had over 25 years of Pokemon. Eight generations, with a ninth on the way and hundreds upon hundreds of Pokemon. And if I had to choose one of them to bring into my home and love forever, it would be Seel.

Why Seel, I'm pretending I hear you ask? It's just so simple and clean in its design. It's ostensibly just a seal but cuter and pudgier. Imagine falling asleep with a happy Seel in your arms - it would be absolute bliss. You'd need a pool, though. Or a very large bath.

7 Rabbitgaroo

Elden Ring Rabbitgaroos

Bet you didn't expect Elden Ring to be present on this list! But just look at it! It's a rabbit and a kangaroo! Oh, my heart. Elden Ring is full to brim with horrific creatures, cruel NPCs, and the ugliest bosses known to man, but these little critters make up for that in all the best ways.

You can find these adorable little ragamuffins in the forested areas of Limgrave, and you absolutely cannot kill them. It's impossible. Sure, they'll drop a few Thing Beast Bones upon death hypothetically, but once you've stared into those enchanting eyes, you'll find yourself physically unable to press the attack button. Right?

6 Blob

Monster Sanctuary Blob

Leave it to Monster Sanctuary to turn the archetypical early-game fodder monster into an adorable and useful team member. You can use blobs to great effect for inflicting status ailments and for healing, and they're just darn cute.

It's not clear how hygienic it would be to have a Blob sliding around the place, but it has to be worth it to have such a pleasant-looking creature around. And did we mention it can heal? That has to be worth something.

5 The Goose

Wait, how did you get here?

Damn, this goose sure knows how to get into places it doesn't belong.

That said... if it didn't cause too much havoc, maybe it wouldn't be too bad to have a goose as a pet! If I could train it to... wait, no, don't touch that button oh now I'm stuck writing in bold. Could you put it back? Oh. I see what you're doing.

One moment folks, let me throw this goose out.

Please don't touch esa tecla. Oh, genial. Ahora estoy escribiendo en español.

TE TENGO AHORA, PÁJARO DIABLO.

There.

4 Chief Puff

It's just a Shadow with a big fluffy hat. Enough said.

3 Paolumu

Monster Hunter World - Paolumu With Inflated Mane On The Ground

I know it would be beyond dangerous to bring anything from Monster Hunter into my home, but hear me out. Monsters are just big, scary animals, right? And animals can be trained! Imagine, if you will, a domesticated Paolumu. It would be a bit big to take on walks, but you could definitely take it for flights. How fun!

And useful? You have no idea! You'll never have to sweep up leaves in autumn ever again, it could cool you down in the summer, and grab a pair of shears and you've got a side-gig selling Paolumu Thickfur! It sells for 3,240 Zenny in Monster Hunter: World, imagine how much that must be in real money!

2 Carbuncle

Emerald carbuncle sitting.

Carbuncle has been a summon throughout the Final Fantasy series for many years, but it probably peaked in pet-ness in Final Fantasy 14. Here, Carbuncles are somewhat commonplace and used as partners by the Arcanist class. They're so adorable that the game even has a function that lets you reskin the ugly big Summoner Egis with the classic Carbuncle.

Carbuncles are fiercely loyal, stupendously fluffy, and actually magic. It's probably the monster on this list I want to have in my life the most.

No. You had your chance. Get out.
