Moonglow Bay is a delightful fish sim that has a lot for you to do. The game tells the story of a town named Moonglow Bay that has fallen on rough times. The town is fueled by fear-fueled superstitions about the marine life hiding in the waters around town.

The superstitions have grown so great that the town's once-flourishing fish industry, its main source of income, has been discontinued. This has caused the buildings around town to fall into disrepair, and some to even shut their doors permanently, like in the case of the games seafood market and library. To help the town, you are given the task of renovating it, but the system can be pretty confusing to get into at first.

What is Town Renovation?

Town Renovation Sign and details

Once you get a little bit into the story of the game, the mayor will give you the option to invest in properties around town. For the tutorial, you will go over the local bar and inn combo and pay 300 shells to restore it. Afterward, you will be informed that you can upgrade other parts of town by interacting with signs in front of buildings that need repair. Just about every building in town, with the exception of the aquarium, Abi's shop, and your home, are in need of renovation.

Where are the Renovation Signs?

While the game does make out like you can begin renovating around town the moment you finish the Cozy Cavern, no signs will appear again until you are mostly done with chapter three. In this chapter, you will be tasked with renovating the pier near the aquarium, the clock tower, and the library. After you finish with the library, signs will appear all over town, allowing you to finally begin fixing up the town.

Renovation prices for each area are all over the place, but they all jump around in price, with some costing as little as 150 shells and others like the bulletin board forcing you to pay out 5000 shells. Some places like the surf shack and train station are locked behind story quests, meaning you won't be able to fix them until chapters four and five. You will also find that the doctor's office is locked behind a sidequest, that while simple to do, can easily be overlooked if you are busy with other parts of the game.
